~ 10 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, January 25, 1989 SPORTS By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer : the Lake-Lehman girls basketball team went against Meyers last week hoping to win and force a three-way tie for the Division II first half title between Meyers, Bishop O'Reilly and the Knights. After the first quarter it appeared the Knights might be able to pull off their plan as they were down by only one point 14- 13. But in the second quarter the Lady Knights fell behind when they were outscored 13-7, and the Mohawks went into the lockerroom at half time leading 27-20. In the second half, Meyers took over the game and went on Lady Knights finish first half 8-2 a scoring spree that downed the Lady Knights 63-44 and gave the Mohawks the first half title. The Lake-Lehman girls finish with an 8-2 record, one game behind Bishop O'Reilly who defeated Seton Catholic 44-40. Coach Joe Martini, however, was pleased with his team. He said he thought they played as hard as they could but lost to a better team that day. He explained that it's a whole new ball game in the second half and his girls will have another chance. Marijo Martini was high scorer for the Knights with 17 points and Carolyn James put in 11. Earlier in the week, the Lady Knights defeated Crestwood 59- 45 led by Wendy Skibitsky with 17 points. She tossed in 13 in the first half, nine of them in a second period run to give the Lady Knights a 27-16 run. Martini added 16 points and Alyson Davis put in 10. Martini and James had a perfect night at the foul line with Martini dumping in seven for seven and James going five for five. The win over Crestwood put the Knights in the position to plossibly tie the first half had they beaten Meyers.
