’ T THE DALLAS POST — THURSDAY, MAY 17, 1962 Rev. Frick’s Pictures * Wild flags on the shore of Hunts ville Reservoir, below Rev. Charles Frick’s house in Huntsville. Taken with the morning mist still rising from the water, wild orchids in the foreground. PAGE 11-T These sleepy babies are not chicks. Far from it. The downy little creatures, clinging to the roughness of a stump, arenewly hatched ruffed grouse. ‘In posing the picture, Rev. Charles Frick tried time and again to get both babies balanced, but one or the other dropped off and had to be rescued. The woods used to be full of them, but the pink ladyslipper is now a raroty, surviving only in areas far from main traveled high- ways, safe from creedy clutching hands that pluck, only to discard when the delicate blossoms wither. This cypripedium is difficult to naturalize, as it is a biennial, blos- soming the second year, then dis- appearing. Soon the- hillsides will be rosy with pink azalea, Mountain Hon- eysuckle. Osmunda fern huddles close to the grateful coolness of a damp rock, dripping with moisture. In a much enlarged version, featuring the cool rock centrally placed, the composi- tion suggests a mural developed in silver grey, black and white.
