Tho difficulty of ono or two school houses, location, &c, had been mention ed no often that wo refrain from repeat ing It at thin time. Tho matter was settled, tho borough wan bonded and in a few months Koynoldxvillo will have a school building second to nono In this section. A school building that will be a credit to tho town. Ono of which all tho citizens of tho town should and will, no doubt, bo proud. The atxivo is a good picture of Uoyn oldaville's new school house which Is so prominent on tho hill and which is bo favorably commented on by tho strang ers who visit tho town. Tho building Is 1)2 x Do feet square, will) two bay win dows projecting 14 feet each beyond tho square; tho walls are 3D feet high: to to) of stacks do feet; tower is 40 feet above tho main roof: there are fifteen school rooms, ono book room, four toilet rooms, assembly room, two largo ro tundas and superintendent's ohiceln tho oditlco. Flats and Sharps. Communicated. If in the year three hundred ntnuty and nlno H. C, Socrates, the greatest philiMophcrof the age and the wisest and purest of tho ancients, was put to death on tho false charge of corrupting tho youth, and teaching doctrines contrary to the belief in the Gods of Hellas, what would be tho verdict of an intelligent jury against a few disreputable fellows In our city who havo not only exhausted every realm of sensuality themselves, but are seizing the youth of our town and vulture, like, proylng on them, and in tho very midst of churches, Sun day schools, Endeavors, Leagues, Unions and a hundred other bulwarks of Christianity, are steadily drawing them Into a winding vortex of intem perance from whoso bourno no traveler o'ro returns, or at least fow Indeed. These men are In every sense of tho word corrupters of youth. Though they are sometimes called good, gener ous fellows, their generosity avails nothing, it only hides In part their true character and adds to their ability of pulling down their victims. Being dominated by a life of corruption they reflect a halo of immoral atmosphere through tho whole community and no one is free from its blighting effects, neither can any ono chock Its onward flow. Every bad organization, as well as almost every bad motive, seem to bo ably led or directed. Never since the founding of the Imperial city on the Tiber, have men been so willing, so anxious, so very Impatient to be led as now. No less is this true socially than it is politically, nor In the world of science. Few men there are who are not willing to throw up their hands and shout themselves hoarse for at least one candidate for President, likewise all Hclentillo men are following in tho footsteps of Prof. Roentgen III his bril liant path. Whether we acknowlodgo It, or even uncouclously, we are looking for some one to pattern after, and for this reason our standard can not be aimed to high. The hardest thing, after an engine is started, Is to keep the track clour. If this ts douo a safe des tination is the result. If society could rid itself of these "whitened sepul chers" who are leading our young men into drinking, gambling and tho whole retinue of foulness, many a life would be saved wrecking. It Is hard, some times, to persuade ourselves that this Is a real picture of daily life. It rather seems to be the Impression of a diseased brain. Or the foul visions that haunt us In our dreams when nightmare op presses us and the deamotiB of darkess sit on our breast, There Is a certain portion of our olty named In honor of "Old Hickory" that turns outevory night, from seven o'clock to midnight and frequently even later, a bevy of young girls from fourteen to seventeen years of ago whoso parents, in substance If not In words, lead them to their respective front doors and turn them loose and, like Bret Ilnrt'i hero, "Their subsequent proceedings Interests them (their parents) no moro." This might lie all right If the niillenltitn were here, but tinder existing circum stances ono might ns well license mad dogs to go free or take ball of Hyenas. Such seed sown will bring an early, as well as a luxuriant, harvest and make us realize In the fullest possible extent Dilutes vision of hell. There are two hundred young men In Heynoldsvlllo who have muscle, blood and brain to make great men of themselves. We do not mean by great men that they must be congressmen for a trip to the National Capitol convinces any ono that with a few noted excep tions congressmen are mighty ordinary mortals. One of the greatest blessings that the U. S. Government ever con ferred on humanity was to make all men equal. The poorest boy in our town, though he may be of humble birth, has the same chance of making his name famous as has the richest and most favored, and fur exceeds him in his chances if he Is Industrious. In dustry, then, and not talent, Is the foundation as well as the dome of great ness. Itov. C. H. Parkhurst says there is not nearly as much difference In the calibre of men as supMiend tn be. Therefore, give us first and last, good old fashlonod brown-listed, Botil-stirrlng Industry. What genius would do In ono year industry will do In two year's and what genius fails to do through ap plication, Industry forges through and completes. Newton's genius is not to bo thought of in the same week with his energy. Energy is a substitute for genius. Tho Btublsirnest creature we havo ever met are boys save ono excep tion, viz girls, which is by no means a fault, for without this characteristic the hero of Appomattox would have been on the other side of Mason and Dix on lino. And Napoleon's biographer, Wm. N. Slone, would bo without a good job. There is not jxiwer enough In tho world, Including all tho power of horses, water, steam and electricity coupled with gravitation, neither "prin cipalities nor things presont, nor things tocome, nor heights nor depths, nor any othor creature," to prevent one or all of tho two hundred boys mentioned, who are now Indolently and catiessly killing time, from being honest, upright und in every senco of the word great. "He who can be great will not bo but he who wills to be can be." Reduced Rates to Washington, D. C.
