Says the Scranton Times —The cause of the murder for which Al t' reda Cassalanovo is on trial for his life sits beside him at the de fendants table in court, in the per son of his eighteen year old wife. Anthony Verano was a suitor for her hand it is illeged, and when Cassalanovo won her it marked the beginning of a feud which ended in tin- killing 011 Jan. -'7, on the street at Bulls Head. This Cassalanova was the Italian prisoner who was caught at Ber nice and placed in the county jail, and who later after escaping from the Sheriff" and being recaptured, was taken to Scranton by members of the state constabulary. Mrs. Russell Karns. Mrs. Russell Karns of Benton, formerly of Laporte, died at her home on Saturday morning, after an illness of pneumonia. Mr. Karns, her husband, was proprie tor of the Laporte hotel for about eighteeu years, and both he and his wife were well known to near ly every resident of the county.
