I hereby announce* myself as a candi date lor the nomination lor the office of Commissioner of Sullivan County, subject to the rules of the Republican Party. A. A. LUDY. Mnr. 24. 1911. Hillsgrove Pa. Will Go After Black Hand. It is reported that in the near future United States secret service agents will be sent to Wilkes-Bar re to break up the Black Hand gangs that are nourishing in this region. These Italians are not supposed to be a part of the regular Black Hand society, or Mafia, but are believed to be a few men gather ed together for the purpose of ex torting money from Italians or Americans under the guise of that organization. From the extent of the extent of their criminal offenc es in the country from Born ice to "Wilkes-Barreand Pittstou, through t.ie mining regions, it is plain that rigid methods should be taken to exterminate the gang. Today (Friday) and April 28, * are the days designated by Govern- , or Tener as Arbor Days. Reckon j this date is ratlier early for the planting of trees and shrubs but it is a good time to begin planning on a fitting celebration when the lat ter date arrives. For a number of years governors of this state have encouraged this work in the schools and as a result many of the school surroundings are rid of that barren look that fairly encourages "hookey playing'' among the youthful scholars. Make the place beauti ful and agreeable to the youngsters and the tasks, which at best are arduous when the summer days . approach, will be more easily mas tered. George Washington's sword, said to have been given him by Frederick the Great, which was lost in the capitol fire at Albany, N. Y., has been recovered. How little the veracious George thought 1 that many years after he had de- | parted, with truth stamped upon his memory, his very sword would be found ]y(ie)ingin the capitol of one of the greatest States. Anglers are patiently waiting for the opening of trout season on April 15, when the legal rsetraint falls away and the piscatorial pas sion vent itself on the speckled beauties of Sullivan County's streams. No premiums have so far been offered for the largest catch. Large Family. David Molyneux, one of the pro minent stock breeders of the coun ty has a Cheter White sow that recently gave birth to a litter of, eighteen pigs. All are reported to be alive and doing well.
