One of the most serious anil in creasing pests in the State of Penn sylvania is the Root Maggot at tacking radishes, turnips, cabbage and cauliflower. This larva or so called worm is the young of a fly, and its work lias become so de structive to these vegetables as to discourage tin planting by many gardeners, i'rof. Surface State Zool ogist, tells how to overcome the work of (his pest. He says: "The best plan is to sprinkle turpentine and kerosene 011 sand, enough to give it a strong odor, and stir it up well iu a bucket. Then sprinkle a little of this close to the roots of the radish plants, and on each side of tht-ni, shortly after the leaves commence to devel op, It will be enough to drive away the flies which lay the eggs from which the maggots or worms hatch. "If there is much rain after the application, it should be repeated again. 1 lie same treatment will keep the worms away from turnips, which for this purpose would be better planted in rows instead of sown broadcast. This will also fa cilitate cultivating them, which will give good returns in size and yield." Drag The Roads. 1 his is the season of the year when the split log drag should lie given a .'bailee to prove its worth. As the r>ads soften up, and the wheels begin to cut, get out the drag and give the road a treatment. As soon as it gets cut up again, give it another treatment. The greatest drawback your community can have is poor roads. A gentle man was talking to the editor of this paper of buying a farm a few days ago, and we told him of one that was for sale. lie knew of it and had looked it over, and ob jected that the roads in that vi cinity were always in poor con dition. "J would rather pay an other 81,001) and get where there is a good road into town,"ho said. Good roads are worth something. —Canton Sentinel. Ikrnice Man Injured.
