Counsel often asked to have eases on the argument list disposed of by the Associates between terms rather than leave them over until the ensuing term. They have done this for the purpose of securing more remunerative prices for fruits and other farm produce, by every legitimate means. It seems that the prices obtained last summer, by the farmers for fruit and vegtables were ridiculously low and unprofitable, and the object in view now is "to secure, if possi ble a uniform price for such products. The members of the asso ciation have begun operations by agreeing not to raise or sell tomatoes for a less sum than $7 a ton, this being from £1 to s?2 more than last years prices. They are to encourage cash buyers as much as possible, and outside of this to deal only with commission merchants. The com mission men are to keep 7 pef cent of the gross sales as payment for their services. Doubtless some of our populist friends will see in this a trust. How the public may regard it is another matter. If the result is simply to eliminate a few of the middlemen and give the farmer better rates without increasing the cost to the consumer, there wont be much clamor, trust or no trust. At any rate, the experiment will be watched with considerable inter est. I,aporte Borough Audit. R. A. CONKLIX, Treasurer, in account with Laportc Borough for the year 18»y.
