A FAULTLESS BEER The following article appears in the United States Trade Reports, a publication devoted to financial, agricultural and mechanical inter- sts © There has been considerable discus- sion of the differect kinds of beer since so much attention has been given to the discussion of pure food products, and many are found to give bad after-effects. The United States Trade Reports has al- ways fearlessly discassed such topics as are of general interest to its readers, and we have received several letters concerning the different kinds of beer on the market. We are asked to recom- mend the best and purest, and which leaves no bad effects after drinking. We have made a carefal investigation representatives in all the principal cities. We feel justified in saying that the beer which we find to surpass all others in purity and cleanliness is made | by the Dotterweich Brewing Co, of Olean, N. Y. The above-named firm stands high in for ita business tact and enterprise, ns well as for its integrity. This beer serves as a tonic as well as a beverage, We have po interest in making this com- mendation, except w give credit where credit is doe, as has always been our policy, and we have not the slightest hesitanc call for this beer, especially for invalids and those of impaired health. formation on any desired subject free of charge, that they may designate by let- ter of aquiey addressed to this office, The United States Trade Reports has the largest circulation of any trade pa- per of its class, and no other publication could afford to maintain such a large stall of experienced editors to make these investigations, and depend solely apon its subscription list for sapport. our readers may have with this firm will prove mutually beneficial and profitable, our editorial recommendation, and, at the same time, to supply our readers with reliable information on such an impertant subject as this. Breryhing ew sed Up to-Duie First: | Pathos and Humor Athens—If the people of Athens | patriotic as were the citizens of our | great republic in the times of '61 (and '65 when the life of the nation {Was in peril, or had they felt the (fice and deprivations heroically Sarme by our boys in blue, the M. -. church would have been crowd- a to the doors last evening to hear the story from one of the | most eloquent divines on the plat- form. As it was there were prob- {ably 150 persons present. Dr. Thomas Iliff was one of the (boys who suffered these depriva- | tions, but last evening he dwelt on the brighter side of the picture. His story was full of pathos, hu- mor and absorbing interest. He began at the beginning, giving the mcidents of leaving home and his preliminary drill and entry into the cavalry service. His home on the southern borders of Ohio near the Kentucky line, which was the scene of so much bitter contention | between the champions of freedom and slavery, gave to his enlistment a thrilling story of patriotic enthu- siasm. He served in the cavalry Kilpatrick, that ddshing chevalier who always struck the enemy where most vulnerable and carried his colors to the vantage ground of victory, where smoke and fire were thickest. We regret that space will not permit us to describe at length the first battle, the cheer of letters from home and sweetheart, and the final march with Sherman to the sea. History gives no greater achieve- ment than has this great march, whereby uncle Billy went in at onc “rat hole” and came out and accomplished the result of cutting the southern confederacy in two by the capture of Fort McAllister. His return home and the reun- ion with those who had waited long, watched and prayed for his return, is a war chapter which every veteran has experienced. In the gand finale of this clo quent lecture Dr. Iliff paid a fit- ting tribute to the gréat men of our nation, and also tender senti- ments for Old Glory. The memo- ry of this worthy lecture will ever remain fragrant in the minds of the few who showed their patriotic interest by their attendance, ATHENS, Hon. O. D.
