Chief of Poliece BURNS discovered on Sat urday evening what he supposed to be a wild duck in a cove near the eastern abutment of the bridge. Procuring his rifle he took good aim and killed the fowl at first shot, which proved to be a ram avis. While somewhat resembling a duck, it is probably a species of snipe. Secretary Lincoln's face in repose is described as serious almost to sternness; but when he smiles it grows bright and then he "is positively and undeniably handsome." At a special meeting of the Philadelshia city councils Saturday, the resolution of the committee investigating the gas works management and providing for eq uity proceedings against trustees, was finally defeated.
