Tus Pennsylvania Legislature pas sed the following resolution: "Resolved, That our United States Senators be earnestly requested to use every honorable effort to secure the passage of the Federal Election bill." It appears that a joint resolntioa such as the one just quoted is, must have the signature of the govern or before it is to be considered of account The resolution was pass ed by the Republican members for the purpose of inducting Senator Quuy and Cameron to vote for the Force Bill, when it thoaM come be fore the U. S. Senate. When the resolution was sent to Governor Pat tison, he promptly vetoed it, on the ground that a Congressional act of mat Kind, trenches upon state sover eignity, and that gives to the Presi. dent and courts dangerous powers to interfere with elections of the people in the states. America for America President Ilarrieioa has by proclamation, an nounced a treaty with Brazil by which Brazil may send here, free of duty, such products of that county that we need and do not produce, and by which treaty we may send there free of duty such products that we produce and they need that is reciprocity. Fuee coinage of silver was beaten the fourth time in tho lower house of Congress hst Friday An effort was made to tack it on the Sundry Civil Appropriation bill, but the mo tion was defeated by a vote ef 134 to 127. The gold men against silver are backed by the bankers, and the sDvw men are backed by the grange and alliance people, who are a mighty force, forging to the front in politics, social and educational affairs. Senatub Woodt' bill far Juno fl ood bridge expenses has been favorably reportod from the senate judiciary lo cal cocmittee. It is one of the bills that should by all means pass the Leg islature and receive the signature of the Governor. When the ladies of the Chinese Legation at Wtshington go out on the street for a walk they are objects of universal attention. Their poor little feet are mere scraps, and they cannot walk, bnt hobble along like cripples', clinging to a friendly fence or post if they are jostled; and some times tumbling all together like a row of bricks. They never go singly and rarely extend their walk beyond sight of their own heme. A servant stands in front of the Legation House he is an Irishman, by wy and keeps a watchful eye on all their movements se long as they are in the street They do not walk a breast, lest one should fall and upset the others. They are ruddy of cheek, and bright and pleasant to look upon, and they appear to be cracking stupendous Chinese jokes about the passersby who stare at them too rudely. These aristocratic ladies are so clumsy, with their fat hands and little feet, that they are quite unable to dress themselves, but require the constant service of a maid. They appear to greatly enjoy the freedom of their American life. . New York Ledger. - - m Contributed . The magic lantern is a machine constructed to magnify small trans parent pictures that are placed in its light. A party that operated a lan tern of this kind, at request showed the transparent plates to a nnmber of persons that called upon them after an exhibition in a halL One picture shown was the likeness of the imposing statue of liberty at New Tork, and was (placed or painted on a sqnare piece of glass, and looked similar to small pictures, of the statute, only that it surpassed the general make, being a Cue nnish as it appeared on the plate, without the magnified shades and colors, produced on tho walls when placed in the light of the lantern. It was transparent, or in ether words mvle for the light. It needed bnt to be placed in the lantern to reveal the fine and yet faint points of the photographer into large plainly to be seen parts'. Once inserted hundreds at one tims could see its shades and sectio: in the cost of the light. Like a finith had been placed up on the picture of the statute portray. ed upon the glass, so to a cer tain degree God has placed a finish upon those washed of their sins through the blood of Christ. They are complete so far that their past sins and faults cannot condemn them as previous tivtheir acceptance. Such are believers. They are partly finished, but may go from strength to strength and become more perfect. They are placed in the light of the Sun of Righteonsness, who by his light reveals to God the Father the fine points of his red.mptive power J marked in each one of them. Christ's light shows his own grace and work and worth unto God, and he is pleased with the sight of his Son's merits and righteonsness. Ibe exhibitors also had with them on a glass plate a picture of St Peter's celebrated cathedral. It was a good finish without being placed in the light. Also God by his refin ed Son, who finished his work on earth, is willing to save the uncouth, the nn last, if they R will but believe Jesus, who will bestow a finish on Christians when he shall appear to resurrect. The Jorusalem that yet shall be, and that will come with the new heaven and new earth will be a eity of pure gold. . Pittsbi'bo, Pa., Jan. 31. ; Geo.
