The state is pumping $6.4 million into the renova tion of the campus power plant to bring the facility into compliance with clean air laws. The state DER has exempted the University from fines for the emissions violations until the project is completed, he said, but explained that fines for violations can be as high as $lO,OOO for the initial discovery and $2,500 for each day of violation after that.
