Hoak scored a pair of touchdowns and passed for another TD as the Lions won, 41-12, in Philadelphia Stadium. Above, Hoak (23) takes off on a six-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. "How can you expect to win when you make so many mis takes." Oregon coach Len Casa nova said as he remembered the two interceptions and a fumble which set up Penn State scores. "We made more mistakes today than any other game this year." A quick glance at the score won't reveal it, but things looked promising for Oregon early in the game. The speedy Grayson, voted the game's outstanding back, showed why Oregon's outside attack was so feared when he led the Ducks on an 88-yard drive that consumed only 12 plays. His 27-yard sprint got the Ducks moving and Grosz helped out with some accurate passing and good running. Grosz finally scored from the one and Oregon led, 6-0. State went ahead at 2:10 of the second quarter when Jonas capped a 62-yard drive by plunging from the one. Henry Oppermann kicked one of his four extra points to give the Lions - the lead, 7-6. Both Penn State lines kept pounding away at the Ducks and the Lions found themselves on the Oregon 37 with about five minutes left in the first half. The "Reddie" unit was in at the time and it s¢►ok only seven plays before halfback Al Gursky scored from the two. Oppermann converted and it was 14-6. Two runs by Hoak—for 11 and 12 yards—set up the touch- down. The Lions got a big break on the next kickoff when Oregon end Len Burnett fumbled and Jim Kerr recovered for State on the Duck 26. A Galen Hall to Oppermann pass netted 12 yards. Hoak came in on the wild card and picked up nine more to put the ball on the five. Jonas slashed to the one but a backfield in motion penalty sent the Lions back to the six. Here, Hoak kept and went through the left side of the Ore gon line for another touchdown. Oppermann converted and State led at halftime 21-6. The Ducks proved they weren't finished at the outset of the sec ond half. They held State and took over on their own 19. Grosz then showed why the .TH-ESIS MULTILITHING FAST _ ECONOMICAL 852 E. COLLEGE AD 84284 Philadelphia Eagles drafted-him when he was still a junior. He picked up 17 yards on three carries and passed 46 yards to halfback Mickey Bruce, playing in place of the injured Cleveland Jones. A 15-yard penalty helped too and the Dicks found themselves on the Lion one. Bruce Snyder, the Oregon full back, tried to plunge through the Lion forward wall but Jay Huff man hit him so hard that the ball bounced back to the 10 where Kerr recovered.
