DECEMBER 16, 1960 Oregon Tomorrow By SANDY PADWE The weatherman says the worst is over .and the second annual Liberty Bowl > game goes on as scheduled tomorrow afternoon at 1 with Penn State meeting Oregon in Philadelphia Stadium. Barring any unforeseen developments —the forecast Saturday is for a partly cloudy, cold day—grid enthusiasts should see one of the na•tion's most evenly matched bowl battles featuring Oregon's speedy backs and Penn State's battle hardened line. Along with the weather, the condition of the playing field is one of the - chief concerns in both the. Oregon and Penn State camps. "We're hoping for a dry and fast field," Webfoot coach Len Casanova said yester day. "We depend on speed, and a bad field could hurt us. We'll just have to wait and see." While Casanova was fretting about the field, a 100-man work crew was putting the finishing touches on a huge clean-up job brought about by Sunday's storm which dumped 15 inches on Philadelphia. Late yesterday, a Liberty Bowl spokes man said most of the snow had been clear ed from the . Stadium and the tarpaulin covered field was in "excellent shape." The spokesman added that there was little chance for a postponement no matter Eidophor Will Carry Bowl Game The Liberty Bowl game between Penn State and Oregon will be televised on Eidophor in Schwab tomorrow beginning with the pre game ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. The kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Leslie Greenhill, associate di rector of the division of academic research and services, said that Schwab will open at noon and there will be no charge for watch ing the game on the giant screen. Greenhill said that the de cision to use Eidophor came in response to a number of re quests since many students will not be able to go to Philadel phia for the game. The Liberty Bowl game will be telecast nationally in color by NBC. Locally, it will be seen on Channel 6, Johnstown (WJAC). Elsewhere on campus, regular television transmitters will be available for watching the game. 'Strangely enough, Penn State coach Rip Engle and Casanova have matched wits only once before' and that was under similar conditions in 1950 when Casanova • was the coach at Pitt. A storm the night before the game stranded the Lions and Pitt in their hotels and Pitt Stadium was' completely buried. The game was postponed and played the following week in Forbes Field with . Penn State winning, 21-20. Neither Engle nor Casanova is hoping for a repeat performance because there is too much at stake. State will be defending the Liberty Bowl championship it won last year with a 7-0 victory over Alabama. The Lions earned a return shot with a 6-3 record and a strong.finish this year. After losing three of their first five, the Lions came on strong and Won thefr last four over West Virginia, Maryland, Holy Cross, and Pitt. Their other wins were over Boston U and Army and they lost to Missouri, Syra cuse and Illinois. Oregon finished with a 7-2-1 mark with the only losses coming at the hands of Washington and Michigan.
