FRIDAY. FEBRUARY ja. 1957 Comedy-Fantasy by Giraudoux To Start 2 Week Run Tonight “The Enchanted,” a comedy-fantasy by Jean Giraudoux, will begin its two-week run at 8 tonight at Center Stage. The presentation will be directed by Ruth Yeaton, graduate student in theatre arts from State College as partial fulfillment of the requirements for her Masters of Arts degree. This is thought to be the first arena production of the play. The author, Giraudoux, has written several plays which have been popular on Broadway including “Tiger at the; Gate” and “Ondine.’ “Amphytry on 38,” his unique retelling of the Amphytryon leg ind, was pro duced by Players in 1952 and “Madwoman of Chaillot" will be presented March 7,8, and 9 in Schwab Auditorium Meant For “The Enchanted” during the period o: greatest productive and is thought to bi address to- youth. The story revolv young schoolmistresi gives her heart to to her, is real and v holds the secrets of | which she is seekinj In the course of th achieves a certain realizes that she cai beyond what she this life es around a >, Isabel, who a ghost who ho, she feels, ife and death Comparison Made It is interesting Jo note that “The Enchanted” and “The Mad woman ■of Chaillot," although they appear different, are simi lar since.one represents the revolt Of youth and the other the revolt of age. The Madwoman and Isabel are different ages and physically they do not resemble one another, but they do have the same soul, the same stalwart spirit of reform and the same unusual methods and business connections with the other world. Only their destinies differ. “The Enchanted” is a story full of laughter but it is not entirely a funny story since it deals with that first death which all of us: must die as a condition of living. Tickets for “The Enchanted” are available in the Greenroom of Schwab Auditorium. Admis sion is free.
