Mack, first of its kind established in any college or uni versity, has been inaugurated at the College following approval of the Board of Trustees 'at their January meeting. The Institute, administered jointly through the School of Ag multure and the School of Chemistry and Physics, is a con solidated working research unit covering investigations formerly carried on by the department of home economics and the Agricul tural Experiment Station. Research data accumulated will lead to the improvement of .si mdards of living in food, shel ter, and clothing. Human nutrition research studies, begun at the College in 1935, will also be carried on. These include pioneer investiga tion of the relationship of dietary intake to the family nutritional status, and a similar study in child nutrition begun co-opera tively with the Department of Health of the Commonwealth in 1936. Investigations of the suitabil ity of new materials for construc tion of houses or parts of houses, and of the performance of new types of household equipment, and a study of physical aspects of housing are in prospect in the Institute.
