Lion Cagers May Play In Tourney The Lion basketball team has received a “feeler” to the Na tional Collegiate Athletic Associ ation tournament in Madison, Wis., and will accept a bid if,one is offered, it was announced last night by Dr. Carl P. Schott, dean of the School of Physical Educa tion and Athletics. Dean Schott said that final bids will probably be sent out Wed nesday. The tournament is sched uled Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22. It is believed that Duquesne University in Pittsburgh is the only other team in this district to receive a feeler. However, Duquesne will probably go to the Madison Square Garden tour nament in New York City. Lion Mermen Drop Final Meet To Cornell, 46-29 Closing their season with their fifth consecutive loss, the Nittany tankmen bowed to Cornell, 49-26, at Ithaca Saturday bringing their 1941 record to three victories and five defeats. Captain Bill Kirkpatrick and A 1 Price took the only Lion first places, Kirkpatrick capturing the 50-yard sprint and Price winning the dive with a total of 82.6 points. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Tom Reissman pushed Cornell’s George Critchlow to a new pool record. Critchlow covered the distance in 2:40.6 minutes, break ing his old mark by 1.2 seconds. $l.OO Per Couple Tax Inch THE DAILY COLLEGIAN Baird Is Only Lion Finalist Penn State’s boxing team fell to a new low at the 18th annual Eastern Intercollegiate Boxing Association tournament at Syr acuse Saturday by failing to take a single championship for the first time since the first tourna ment in 1924 and dropping to the lowest place a Lion team has taken in the 18 years of the As sociation’s existence. High mark in Penn State's darkest tourney competition was Bobby Baird’s attempt for the 145-pound championship. Baird fought to the finals, only to be defeated by defending champion Loren Schoff of Syracuse. Besides Baird’s second place, the Lions won two third places, to earn five points, two points more than Western Maryland, low team of the meet. Syracuse, with' 28 points, five champions, and one second place, took the Edward J. Neil trophy, presented Wt. With four men eliminated in the prelims, Penn State had only four boxers to show in the semi finals. Of these, Fiore was elim inated by TKO resulting from a cut eye suffered in 1:35 of the third round. Hudson, Western Maryland, Was the winner. Paul Mall, another State semi finalist, was knocked out in 1:45 minutes of the second round by Americo Woyciesjes, Syracuse’s defending 175-pound champion. Jimmy Lewis, State’s only 1940 champion, was eliminated in the prelims by Co-Captain John ny Clark, defending 155-pound king. Clark subsequently lost his title to McGarity of United States Coast Guard Academy. The 1940 Intercollegiates will be held at Charlottesville, Va., at ‘the University of Virginia. A new rule, calling for automatic forfeiting of third place bouts in favor of the boxer who lost to the ultimate champion, was ad opted at Syracuse Saturday.
