An announcement of far more than! ordinary interest to local playgoers is that of the coining to the Orpheum ! ion Monday evening ot Cyril Maude, i 1 most distinguished of the English ac- i tors visiting us and hap- i Mr. Cvril pilv recalled here for his; Maude delightful performance in, the unforgetable "Grum- , pv." The vehicle with which Mr. , Maude makes tiis present visit is a , new cornedv bv C. Haddou Chambers entitled "The Saving Grace." The Charles Frohman company lias, surrounded Mr. Maude with a most ( distinguished Company. "Laura Hope. Crews, a charming and most capable actress, with an individual following) here, interprets the principal femine role. Betty Murray, agreeably re called for a delightful performance with Mr. Maude in "Grumpy" has an equally pleasing role in "The Saving j Grace. Other players entrusted with | important characterizations are Annie I Hughes, Charlotte Granville. Edward Douglas and Stanley Harrison. The production has been made under the personal supervision of the author. Mr. Chambers having come, from Lon don for the purpose. The comedy, needless to say, is presented with all the distinction and painstaking good tarte characteristic of Charles Froh man ptoductions. YVhat is a Dub? In the parlance of the submerged tenth it is a man who succeeds In muddling Wallnec Held everything with nt the Regent which he comes 'in contact and who is unable to do anything right. It also suggests one who does his work care lessly or indifferently—you hear of people "dubbing along" at some given task. Probably the best synonym for dub in, what is commonly known as "a poor fish." Anyway, If you want to find, what a dub is really like, see "The Dub," the picture in which Wallace Hold will appear at the Regent Theater next Monday and Tuesday. Oddly enough, in the end. the star proves that he isn't a dub after all and the story rounds oat into a decidedly >n tetesting series of complications with a surprising finish. Aiul there Is love in it. No dub cou'd fail to get mixed up in a love affair. In fact, some people say that to be a dub one must be in love; otheir say that if you are not In love you are a dub. Anyway you put it, the subject Is interesting. James Oruze directed the picture with William Horwitz as his assist ant. Nina Byron is the leading wo man and the cart includes many fa vorites of the Laskv stock organiza tion. Will M. Ritehcy wrote the .-ce-sr!" *•- a magazine story by Edgar Franklin. Golden will present at the Orpheum next Thursday. Friday and Saturday, has been well advertised locally by persons who wit nessed it during Its long runs in New York and Chicago last year. Visitors in both cities were directed to it as "the best play in town" and it is doubtful that any theatrical oftc'"*- " • tbe past decade hus been favored with heavier out-of-town patronage during its metropolitan engagement. For those who witnessed "Turn to the Right!" at the Gaiety Theater ,K its forth coming engage ment will afford an opportunity to renew acquaintance with Ruth Cheater, Rdgar Nelson, re Witt Newing, A 1 Sincoff and other members of the original cast. The complete production is being carried on tour and the local presentation will lack nothing of the sincerity or nttractivenes of the metropolitan performances. The company comes direct from the Garrett Theatei, Philadelphia. One of the new season's notably fine offerings is promised for the j Orpheum Wednesday "The matinee and right] Boomerang" when David Belasco; will present the Win-1 chell Fmith and Victor Mapes comedy i success. "The Boomerang." Described as a most charming comedy, breath ing the spirit of youth at every turn, this popular Belasco success concerns a young physician who applies his knowledge of modern science success fully to the treatment of a youth suffering from an affair of the heart. ; latter, he himself falls a victim of his own teaching through the medium of a very pretty nurse in whom he j has inculcated his pet theories about! leve and jealousy. I With its high lights of fun ar.d j humor, it is promised that "The Boomerang" provides that blend of j entertainment which in tlie theater is] irresistible.
