PROFIT TAKING FOLLOWS INQUIRY Leading Issues Carried to Higher Levels; Steel Wavers New York, Aug. 10. Transactions of the first hour approximating 250,- 000 shares, exceeded the entire out put of some recent sessions. Decline" of the usual character of profit taking were followed by a fresh inquiry which carried leading issues notably Reading, to higher levels. There was another and more moderate reversal in the second hour, with considerable diminution of activity. United States Steel wavered, probably in anticipa tion of an indifferent July tonnage statement. Towards midday there came a spirited demand for Marines, but quotations elsewhere were slightly irregular. Bonds were steady.
