We cannot conceal from ourselves, and we -would not conceal from our readers, that the nomination of Gep. BlonsasAn far Congress In this district is the occasion of considerable din• satisfaction in the Republican ranks. Not on account (*.Many personal hostility to that gentle man; for 's amiability, kindness of disposition, and exc eat 'aualitieS a.s a bnidness man have rendare hint extremely popular, individually, where, he is known ; but because an impfes cicalas got abreiw.lthat ho is not a Republican, or that he Is still a democrat. Many well mean ing, Intelligent and devoted Republicans have been impressed with this idea, and they cannot be blamed for deeiring that the candidate wha is to represent, specially, their political princi ples, ehould be identical with them in feeling -and purpose. A great battle is to be; fought in the next Congress ; and they say, and say truly, that this staunch Republican district should be represented by no one who cannot lay his hand upon his heart - and exclaim, -without guile, "I am a Republican!" Individually, our intercourse with Gen. NiClll2- nzaD has been of the pleasantest and most agree able kind. We esteem him highly as a gentle man aid well qualified for the post to which he is named, and wo know that he possesses in himself all the elemente of an extended popu larity. But we are set for the defence of Re publican Principles; and the duty which we owe to the Republir.an, party demands of us that we shoidd support no man far ones r. ha does not stand fairly and squarely upon the platform of that party. • Now, the simple question to be eolvcd, with reference to Gen. Morehead, is, does he stand upon that platform? ha does, wo shall support him with all our heart and might; if he does not, then he cannot ask the party to support hire. Let tI3 be understood. tVe do not say. that °tn. Morehead is not. a Republican ; we amities to say that we believe that be is, and that he not only considers him.cii as thoroughly identified with that party in its ,principles and purposes but that, if elected, he will net heartily and efficient ly with the other Republicans in Congress; bat what we think is one thing and what the public thinks .may he another; and it is for the pur pose of giving Gen. gOILLEIEAD 1112 opportunity of, at one? (and cle4.rly) defining his position that we have penned this article. It is his duty as well as ours to realove all causes of dissatis faction from the pubic mind, on this score, at once, and from that point forward all will be plain sailing. This, we feel thortMghly assured, be will do, and that promptly. It is not ferns or for hint to isies or ex..Zl plain how tbe.npression has gc4rond that he is not a Republican ; 'Such is th act, how ever much it my be regretted, and wo must take it-as we find it. lie has simply to say that he Republican; that he considers himself and his political fortunes - identified with 4licaß.e -pubßeett party; that he stands fairly and square ly upon the Republican plalform as adopted,in Philadelphia 185.3; and that as the standard bearer of the Itepublicau - party in this eventful contest, be will beil• it proudly aloft and sink or swim with the party'that has honored him with the highest nominati ain its gift. ft is to be regretted that there should be any occasion for such assurances nathese; -built is not Gen. 3fore head's fault that:l44as not had the opportunity to give them before. We need hardly say that this article is dic tated by the kindest feelings for Gen. Morehead and withia sincve desire to promote his inter ests. If.we did not think it etsential to our suc cess as a party, we would not ask for the assu rances we have enumerated. We think we know ehat his reply will he: and that when it has been frankly given, no It has horn frankly asked. we shall take off our coats, roll up our sleeves and go In for his election with that earnestness and zeal which has always characterized our po litical labors.. P. S.--Since writing - the above, we have seen and conversed with Gen. Morehead, to whom w made known its contents, and we will ho enabled to lay his reply before our readers tomorrow. Tue Kansas ancries on the lloglish bill is fixed for the.let Monday iu August—the day of the Missouri election. We avail ourselves, however, of the earliest op portunity to say that we atoll support the ticket heartily. The nominee for Senate is a gentle man who stands in the foremost rank at the bar, and hie nomination is a pectiliarly appropriate and fitting one. The Assembly ticket, too, is an excellentone—none better was ever present ed in this county. The gentleman nominated for Sheriff is a popular, widely known and most excellent citizen, whose many good qualities still enable him to walk over the track without serious opposition. The otter gcni:clacti nomi nated are all well qualified for the Oozes to ' which they are named; anti although we think the ticket might have been more judiciously dis tributed throughout the county, it - is deserving I of general support, and will undoubtedly be triumphantly elected. Two THINGS, we think, have been settled by the late County Convention, although it took no action in that direction--firo, that e. Convention of two delegates from each of Ili; election dis tricts is too large a body for noadnutiag pur poses, and ereond, that. luso...fire Congressional nominations should be made by diotriel. Con gressional Conventions. A convention of 132 members, tailed together front all parts of the county and anxious to do up its work quickly, is burdensome from its very numbers. Deliberation and interchange of sentiment are impossible, and the work of nomination becomes a mere scramble. Here. after, we trust the conventions will ho limited to one delegate from each district, which would give a convention of 6 1 3 members—a body abund antly largo yet not too large for deliberative purposes. As to Congressional nominations, they should, in future, be made by conventions of delegates called specially for that purpose. In that way, the ofhoe of Congressman can be removed from the whirlpool of strife over the county offices 11.
