It appears that Mr. Redmond, a storekeeper at Neatarille, had circulated a report against party of men, one of whom was a young man named Mr. Whorter, the sou of a highly respec; table citizen, that they were counterfeiters. They heard of this, and laid a plan to decoy Redmond from his home and murder him. Mr. nosier divulged this to Redmond. On Friday the party made an attack on Redmond and his friends in Neataville, among whom ifaa .Red mond's son and Mr. Whorter. Nearly fifty shots were fired. The elder Redmond, was shot through the heart and instantly killed. Mr. Whorter was shot in the back of the bead, and it is thought cannot recover. The affair had created tremendous excitement —Lou. Tun drains upon the United States , Treasary for the last few weeks has removed all appre hension of a surplus, and we may therefore ex pect a comparatively short session, there being no money to quarrel over. The new members of Congress, it is said, will probably draw nine months' pay on the meeting of the first session next week. The members of the House are salaried at $3,000 per annum. The term of the present Congress dates from the 4th March Ist., and the construction put upon the law is, that three fourths the, first year of the term will be paya ble, if demanded, on the commencement of ac tual service, the first Monday in December. If so, the Treasury will be drawn ppm at once for $500,000 or $600,000 for this object. One of the earliest acts of Congress, it Is believed, will be to authorize an issue of treasury notes, bear ing a nominal intererest of say one mill per annum, to supply the deficiencies intke revenue.
