Tar AnaONACTS.—The Messieurs Godard and Dr. Schenk, with the balloon Canada, had a very sate and pleasant excursion on Saturday. They returned to this city on Monday morning, safe and sourot. They took the wind here from a direction that carried them almost directly up the 'valley of the Allegheny river. When we stood looking at them we could gain no adequate idea of the swilluese wit: which they made their way through the air. It was plain, however, that their velocity was great, for the immense mese of their floating vehicle faded out of alght in a half hour from the time It broke ground. though the Eittnosphers was free from smoke or vapor. We now learn that in au hour and a quarter from the time they started they aligh.ed some five miles to the northward u: Kittanning with. out difficulty. The distance to K. by railway is 44 miles.•eu that they esilet 39 miles by the road, iu the time above menticned, which is about 32 miles as hour, a somewhat rapid rate of loco motion. We regret to learn that Mono. Godard did not realize as much profit from his labor as he ought. 13~ bad not enough gas to carry the passengers who offered and thereby tort a round sum. We hope ho will try it again from thie aide of the river, and under more favorable aturdeett. —Since writing the above, we Love Imi the pleasure of a personal Int ervlow with Dr. Schenk. He could hardly find words to express the plea sure he experienced in his voyage. The upper sir seemed to effect him somewhat like laughing gas, and he states-that the desire to shout was almost irresistible. Then the panorama was de lightful • For forty miles around, the landscape was revealed to him; the' dwellings of men seemed like the little card houses which children build for their amusement, while the body of the earth appeared concave, sweeping away like a mighty crescent from the plumb depths imme-• diately below them, up in a grand curve on either hand to the line where earth and sky blended into one. Gradually, as the sun wont down, the earth clothed herself in deepening shadows while the light streamed across the verge of the globe in golden beams, bathing the adventurous navigators in a flood all the more splendid from Its contrast with the shadows and ',gathering deeketees below. The two rivers wound - their way. now dwindled into silver threads, on to 'the Ohio, which was itself loot only when the eye failed to peer further into the distance. To the eye from that airy height the earth prmudetiuo Me quail ies, the treed appear ed like=bunvl . of aloes and- all the works of men were so petty as &Meetly to be observed.- -;•lit the time when they were the highest., the cold was very severe, and the valve of the balloon was sealed by the hardening of the substance around'it. . The Doctor has promised to write out for us, at length, his impressions and observations, which we shall publish and which will be read with much interest. We sincerely regret that lions. Godard boa lost money by his excursion. and do sincerely hope that such encouragement may be held. out to him es will induce him, in prospect of a certain reward for his toll, to try another.before he shall leave us. ..
