SATURDAY MORNING HOUBZWOMAMIIIIP.—WO notice by a late Phi ladelphia paper that Minna, the celebrated circus rider, has opened. an equestrienne school in Philadelphia. She is a superb horsewoman herself, and doubtless has the faculty of im parting a knowledge of this noble art to others of her sex; but Mlle Minna's is not the only ladies' riditig school in Quakerdom. There are a number . of.others. all doing a flourishing busi nets ; indeed, we know of no city where this graceful and healthful exercise is indulged in more by the fair sex than in the city founded by William Penn. Cleveland, among Western cities, would perhaps bear off the palm in this respect. Oa a clear afternoon, a promenade out Euclid street will show scores of the fairer portion of humanity mounted on fiery steeds, witching the world with daring " horseman ship." How stands it with Pittsburgh? We believe there is no place of the same size, and with the same beautiful thoroughfares in the vi amity for rides and drives, where it is less in dulged in. This ought not so to be. There is no exercise like that of riding on horseback for developing the form and adding to one's health. This is the testimony of every physician of all systems—Allopathy, Homeopathy, Hydropathy, or what you will. There is at least one school in this city—there may he more—where eques trianehip is taught thoroughly, and where no one can have any fears of sending their children ; and in believe it is the duty of every father who can afford it to give his daughter at least a quar ter's 'schooling with an experiecoed riding .teacher. A MADMAN ON 11013SEBACIL—Yesterday after noon, about four o'clock, a man named Pierce Kelly, excited considerable alarm in the neigh. borhood of the post-office, by " running a muck" down Fifth street. Mounted on horseback and armed with a heavy bludgeon, he name tearing down the bill from the court house, riding over every thing and striking at every body in his way. At the post office ho forced his bores into the lobby, and striking right and left with his club, broke a number of the windows in front of the letter boxes; then wheeling the animal around, he started at full speed down Smithfield street towards Diamond alley, where be was secured and taken to the Mayor's office. Wo un derstand that he is subject to fits of insanity, and his conduct yesterday can only be accounted for by supposing he was laboring under one at the time he commenced his wild ride. TDB UNKINDEST CUT OP ALL "—A great many severe things have been said about Pitts burgh by those , envious of her prosperity, but the unkindest " cut" yet, appears in the Union town Sentinel of Wednesday. The editors of that paper publish what purports to be a first rate view of this city, and says it will be read ily recognized by all familiar with the place. Yes, we have no doubt it would, if the town were only visible on the engraving, but the ar• tiete has concealed it in such a murky atmos phere, that nothing can be discerned except a cloud of coal smoke. If the engraver intended to give the appearance of Pittsburgh on a foggy day, he has succeeded admirably ; but we be lieve our citizens would not like to admit its correctness at any other time. The picture Is the hardest " wood cut" we ever beheld. y ,. ~, E ~^", m f=.',*, ~..:1!:.,f,i'::;41,,r.'_-.'. ,_ r .ry i'i .~ WEBil ; 4 ; • =.;z _:. - .. -'~.-.~~.: ....~ ~..'r. "'Nk , gay-alord.a Hair Resterer..-This preparation scans to be efficacious for the restoration of the hair upon ball heads. We have seen the testimony of persons well known to us, who have used the i:ompound successfully thereby corroborating the opinion of Its restorative ener gy . We took occasion the other clay to notice this valuable compound in the above tonna, atanow republish what was then arid, to show again our favorable opinion of it. The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virginia) Intclliguncer, and refers to an article which has for a time been advertised In our columns. We must confess that we have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable effects attributed to this famous "flair Restorer." lint our in credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by !-ring a couple of certlEcates of well-known and perfectly credible citizens of the neighboring town of Preston—one of them the Captain of a New London whaling chip—to the effect that, in each of these cases, a two or three months' use of the " Restorer" had actually brought out a new and vigorous growth of hair upon the head where It was before bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty years standing. WI do not suppose it le by any means car- taln that, because the application has been thus successful In one ease, or two, or a dozen, it is therefore certain to prove equally successful in all. But with such head-strong evidence as the foregoing, very few bald heads, we suspect, would willingly forego a fair trial of the " Restorer." All such `•old heads" are informed that the article can be bad at Messrs. Lee kOsgnod's —Norwich Evening Courier.
