This morning I observed is several of the daily papers a None ," signed by Prof. It, in which he states that I was unauthorized to make use of it, anu that It was incorrectly stated and applied. In reply—l presumed that if ho had written the letter, be, of course, meant what was therein contained, and con sequently required no authority from him to make the saute public,. As regard+ the assertion os to its ineorrect nese, I have the latter in my possession, and it speaks for itself, word for word as I have published. Messrs. Baum garten It Heins are not dependant upon Mr. Rohbock for endorsement—their Pianos were known, appreciated and' received the highest mmtneudatious from the first artiste, long before Prof. IL saw tit to pass on opinion upon them. My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that be wag well known in the city, and not be ause his recom mendation was necessary to establieh the merit of the Pianos. Ire conclusion, I may add that they stand on their own merit, and are endorsed by Purl" men a+ List, Thal berg, and others, solely on account of their merit. mh23 CH italliTTP. BLUME. Aniong the numerous fresh and elegant spring novelties, the most conspicuous are , the beautiful foulards for robes; it is impossible to imagine anything more charming. The material is light, and has the recommendatory property of not be ing easily creased. , Casagues of velvet or silk are usually worn with these skirts. The foulard is equal ly in request for in doors neglige or morning walking dress. It is an elegant material for children's - dresses, and frequently employed for that purpose.' Our attention bas been especially attracted by two mantelets ; one styled the Rehr% is quite novel ; to form an ides. of which you must im agine a mantelet-echarpeloosely thrown over the shoulders, and quite open to the cheat. This style is doubtless very begoming with a summer dress ; but when the weather is cool, and a close mantle is required, it is here that the Feed ers proves not only elegant, but useful, as in a moment it can be converted into the latter. This is accomplished by adding a piece fatting the curve at Lovas fastened to it by a row of• button-holes, corresponding wtth the same num• ber of buttons, which are concealed under the trimming of stamped, velvet with bayaderes stripes, edged with a narrow black lace. Be tween the spaces of "trimming a fiat lace is pia ced. A chatelaine flounce, rounded at the ends, finishes this beautiful rnantelet, which will be is as great demand in the summer season as at the present time. The second shape is the mantelet•eobarpe, upon the foindation of whioh is an embroidered wreath, wittiappliquees of out velvet, enoiroled by a ruoho of drawn gauze ribbon. The third style, much in vogue and good taste, with bouffantes skirts, is the mantelet a rotando, trimmed with a deep lace. • With the mantelets we have-described was an assortment of robes made of the new flowered .taffeta, as well as bonnets, caps, and coiffure for dinner and evening dress. The mode for bonnets' is now fired. These made of silk are richly trimmed with blondes, lace, feathers, or flovrers. The new In- Aerial in vogue is the taffettas mile races, or mile car relax, of a very light brdwn color. The cur tains are atilt square, and rather pointed in the middle. • Rice straw and Leghern are equally elegant. They are styled the Parades. The front Is com posed of a lame of from two or three inches in width, 'Orem:l_6Bok if the ears, and continnicg without interruption, so as to form the curtain. The trimming inside roaches _round her chin by means of the strings. The ornament outside consists of a feather thrown back over the bead, or a wreath of flowers, the branches of which descend in a careless manner over the shoal dera. - - Although the baequea retain their vogue, many bodies are made fitting close to the waist and plain. These are - enriched with an Infinite variety of ornaments, consisting of silk buttons or ribbons. Floating ribbops upeit the skirt, either behind or in front from the waist, or falling over the betty, are thei mode at the present season. Skirts are Made very fall, and bouffants. Many are fastened in the hand in large round or flat plaits. The fronts are lees lull and shorter than the back breadths, which form a rounded train. • Silk dresses are much in favor; the more an tique for dress ; the foulards for neglige. No thing ie more reoherohe than a. robe of moire antique with two skirts, with a single hem at the bottom of each. B ody with basques, closed in front with buttons or passementerie. The sleeves, au well as the Basques; are trimmed with narrow braids. Alpacas are much used for negligees dresses Plaid poplins are also greatly in vogue. [From the Philadelphia Ledger, Wednesday.) American Colonization Socitt,ty. Last evening a meeting of this Society wan held in Concert Hall. Governor Pollock presi ded, and made a speech. The annual report was read, showing that five companies, embracing 653 emigrants, embarked for Liberia during the year prior to he annual meeting of the Ameri can Colonization Society • and one vessel sailed a few days ago from Norfolk with 100 emigrants. The recent visit of President Roberts to Eng. land, and that of the Rev. J. B. Pinney, the Sec retary of the New York Colonization - Society to Liberia, were adverted to as events of signal in• terest to the cause, which have before been made public, The report further states that among the grati fying resulta of tho Society in Liberia, is the happy and contented manner of living. Ono person, named Hooper, formerly a slave in North Carolina, is represented as being the owner of a farm, which, in the beauty and variety of its tropical fruits and productions, the good taste in which the grounds are laid out, and all the at tractions of a rural home, the wealthiest gentle man in this country might view with envy. Well-constructed houses and churches at Afonro4 yin, and at olher points, have been multiplied during the "past year, and along the banks of the St.. Paul's many new dwellings have been erected. Au instance of the prosperity of the com merce of Liberia was given in the return of $9OO to a firm in New York, who had sent out a eargo of goods valued at $5OO. African trade is represented as contributing very widely and powerfully to the. civilization of the African people. We of . tho disadvantages the country labors under, is the want of an opportunity to send goods to market as fast as produced by the natives. State Colonization Societies were organized in Maine and North Carolina during 1854 ; New Jersey made, through her Legislature, a dona tion of $6OOO, and publics attention was wore generally directed to the subject in every part of the Union last year than at any former period. The meeting was also addressed by Rev. Dr Durbin and Rev. R. R. Gurney. The word " vrhttet , In the Pennsylvania Judge Strand, in a speech recently delivered in the Episcopal Convention, asserted, that the word "white" was introduced into the Constitu tion of Pennsylvania, by the politicians of the day, to disfranchise a people already trodden down. Judge Stroud's kind feeling to the col ored race does honor to hie heart, but it has, on this occasion, prevented the exercise of his re markably powerful'memory. About two years before the adoption of the Amendments to the Constitution of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of our State, :decided, that negroes bad no right to vote in Pennsylvania, consequently the introduction of the word "white" disfranchised no one. The Jtr)ge perhaps had forgotten, that the word " white" was introduced into the Con stitution, and sustained on the floor of the Re form ConvSntion,'by an influential and respect cd member of tho Society of Friends, named Benjamin Martin, whom we are pleased to call cur personal friend, and with whom we are per mitted to enjoy hours of social intercourse. AlthOugh now verging upon four score years, his intellect is as clear as it was the very day be advocated the introduction of the word "white" icto the Cor:alto:don. Re is a liberal minded man, and has no antipathies against the blaoka as a race, tint believes that they aro still unlit to becornecilizensfin the same sense_ au a white man.
