By order of the Board of Health. A. C. MURDOCK, Physician of Board of Health. Dinner Conn.—Before Hon. H. W. Wil liams, AllBoolllte Judge. Tarnener, December 7. William Boyd vs. Margaret Boyd. Marshidl for plaintiff ; • Alden for defendant. This action is brought against defendantoeand John Boyd, on a promissory note signed by both of them. Judgment was entered by default some two years age, and was afterwards opened as to Margaret Boyd, on the allegation that she was a married woman. and the note being given for a debt due by the husband, John Boyd. The defendant proved that the note was made after the mar riage of John Boyd. A verdict of 5129 77 was rendered for plaintiff, subject to the opinion of the Court on the points reserved, which involves the question of how far, under our recent sta tutes, a married woman can make contracts. Robert Graham vs. Bnffum ft Co. Alden for Wl2B Shaler for defence . Plaintiff claimed WISS 63, as wages for his services in bottling .porter, mineral water, pop, fto for which amount he had obtained an award of arbitration, from which defendants had appealed. After progressing some time in the trial, the Jury was discharged, and defendants withdrew their ap peal from the award, thus leaving the award to stand an originally made. Considerable sport was occasioned to the audience during the trial, by amusing descriptions of the manner in which sour porter was converted into sweet, and mak. leg a barrel of portermeasnre out several dozens bottles more than it would contain. Tswana—Manager Foster, at the urgent so licitation of many of our old theatre-goers, who were so well pleased at its representation the first season the Theatre was opened under the charge of the present manager, since which time it has not been performed here, has concluded to place on the stage again, the great American comedy of "Changes." This piece, wherever it has been presented, has achieved a success only commensurate with its merits. It abounds with many beautiful passages, excellent senti ment, and dramatic effect. It has been in re hearsal for several weeks, which is a guarauty that lie. Foster is neglecting nothing that ia ne cessary-to insure an effective representation. The Theatre is warm and comfortable, and we know of no place where a person can combine pleasure and instruction better, than by ping and seeing "Changes" to-night. STABBING AFTAIH.—.9 fracas occurred yester day afternoon, in the Ninth Ward, in which a young Mau named John Law was severely bed by a negro named George Grant. The wounded man was oonveyed to Dr. Ahrs office, where the injury was probed, and pronounced to be of a very serious, if not to al ishassotrk. WrELLY REVIEW OF PITTSBURGH MARKET 0/FICI OF TIER DISLT MORNINO POO!, 1 . Friday, December 8, 1864.1 Oar hopes of a rise In the river, and with it an enlivened business, have not been realised. The water continued to recede gradually until Monday last, when there was little over three feet in the channel, and since thou a permanent • blockade has been kept up by the ice. It Is unitise to *vow tete on the probability of its soon opening; the weather may moderate, end it may not, in a very short time, but the thing depends so entirely upon that not.to•bedependol on idividnet, the clerk of the weather, that we will not yen. prediction. If ouch an event abould occur old be most acceptable to all classes here, as id there is an immense amount of produce at here and Cincinnati, reedy to be shipped all points bete, on the brat rise. As matters now stand, nothing in done in the may of spouilation, but trede is exclusively confined to the wants of oar own community. Flour bad slightly declined. week ago upon present receipts and the prospect of further re ceipts from below. Put the latter not having been real ised, it again atYvaneed. It appears by the following from the "Cincinnati Commercial" of Wednesday that they are in pretty much our condition The very cold weather, which Increase. the probability that the river will freme up, produce, a general gloom in the bminees community, and make. the future prospect wear anything but an agreeeble aspect. The Pork market is spin sti ff er, with a considerable demand from parties having contracts maturing during the present and the com ing week; the light arrivals. of hop, particularly at Louis. elite, where the reeelptS have almost ceased, am making "short crop men;" but we learn that the lodlana hogs are, as a general thing, still to COMM, and, civvies to the went of sufficient railway facilities, it Is not likely all the hogs will be in from that State until the first of February. DrOrere not having madecolculatioos to drive, have been depeoding upon the railway facilities, but we are credibly informed Mud the railway., with their car facilities, could not bring in all the hop intended for market before the Brat of March. We also learn that quite s ..rtre number of Ken tucky drovers are out in the • lea& • : Crawfordsville and Lafayette, buying up hop at $3 per cw glom, with the in tention of packing at points on the Wabash ; and It may be well to remark that the drovers believe Michelin Ina short crop, and emeequent high prime. The Louisville "Courier," of Tuesday morning my,: The slaughtering round the Vallejo,/ now le tether light, owing to the want of bop. trersley, Kinnard ill Co. killed, yesterday, 1,200 hogs, and Jambe t Co., A. E. Whim & Atkinson. ilamilton, Ricketts A Co. killed upward. of 6,000 head, making the total number killed up to last night, 166; OOP hogs, egainst 114.125 last year at the mune date. There ou r than 25,000 hop in pen, and the arrivals constantly pouring In, while the reecipts now are eery meagre, and the season more advanced. There le no change in to Cincinnati Honey market worth mentioning. In New York, the " ironing Poet" of Wed. tenthly says : There Is cotonlerable demand for money, though Ute banks are disposed to dimount above their receipts ; and the &sonnet brokers Kill charge 12016 per cent Mr good mercantile paper, and higher raise for /Me dearriptious of long date. The amount of paper on the market is expected to decline. Pot the contraction of burin.. and the rapid liquideti,n renders the circulation of money very slow. Aterniunce of money la often the remit of •uick chrtila gun, naullipir to effect, by Its rapid exch angese mere positive amount of moneLin the market. In this respect the mat k.t is stilt going ckwarde.
