W- S- Cochran & Co., Wide merchants, No. 324 Walnut street. During the night the premises were en tered and the fire-proof safe, which is built into the wall , in the ordinary way was en tered, not by picking or blowing open the lock, bnt by breaking through the solid .brick wall, an operation Which must have required an hour or two of hard work. The boxes, drawers, &c., containing the valuable property of the firm, were carried into the store, broken open, and their con tends thoroughly overhauled, and the rob bers made their escape with booty amounting to' abont §lOO,OOO. The prin cipal part of the plunder consisted of coupon bonds, and railroad and other stocks. Most of these securities were enclosed in enve lopes on which the numbers were endorsed, and- the burglars, whose work was other wise done with all the deliberation of old and experienced hands, seem to have overlooked this most important cine to the Recovery of the property. Amongst the stolen securities are: Six $l,OOO six per cent. Delaware Division bonds, numbered 70, 73,79, 530,531, and 532. §5,000 in Union Canal bonds, and §4,000 in City sixes. §ll,OOO in ten per cent., coupon bonds of the North Pennsylvania Railroad. §14,000 in seven per cent, bonds of the Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad. Four six per cent. §l,OOO bonds of the Philadelphia and Erie Raitroad, endorsed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, and num bered 112.1,048, 1,319 snd 432. About §50,000 in Pennsylvania and Read ing stocks and §5,000 in Sohnylkill Navi gation Loan. A large portion of the stolen property is notin negotiable form, and there is little doubt but that the skill ; of the detectiye force will secure the arrest of the greater portion of their inconvenient plun der;!'-'-"",:,; e/s/n 0- (The burglars helped themselves plenti-’ fully from tbe fine winesandcigars of the Messrs.
