From Our Third Edition of Yesterday, Marine Disasters* New York, Oct. 23.—The brig Velocity, arrived here, reports encountering a hurri cane on the Ist ins't., and suffering much damage. On the 6th inst. met a brig and a schooner, both disabled. On the 19th inst. •was boarded' by the brig Ospray, of St. John, N. 8., which had on board the crew of the schooner Saltillo, and was short of provisions. The Velocity, being also short, was nnable to supply them. On the 21st saw the steamer .Theodore D. Wagner, from Boston for Charleston, on fire. .Rendered all the assistance possible, and got all the women and; children, sixteen in number, on board the brig, when the crew, finding it impossible to save the steamer, aban doned her, thirteen coming on board the Velocity, and the remaining seventeen going on hoard' the schooner Enoch Pratt, honhd to New York. The bark Star King reports, in a gale on the 16th, took from the bark, Mary Eliza beth, the captain and crew, twelve in num ber. The Captain reported passing the wreck of the schooner M. E. Dyer with four men on board, but was unable to assist them. 1 The bark Chinaseren reports, on the 21st, in lat. 37° 48' log. 93° 24', at IA. M., saw a screw steamer bn fire, with another steamer lying by her, supposed to have taken her crew off. The one on fire sunk at 3 P. M. on the 22d. The firm name is Alden, Prink <fc Weston, and they are said to be the heaviest manufectnrers ofknit woolen goods in the United States. Their axe factory, nominally carried on by W. J. Ten Eyck <fc Co., was one of the largest in the country. They employed about 1,000 hands, whose monthly wages averaged $25,000, so that it will at once be perceived how severe the blow is to Cohoes and its manufacturing in terests. The company owned four exten sive mills in the village, and until very re cently .was supposed to be immensely wealthy. Among the heaviest creditors are the wool dealers of Troy, and one or two New York concerns are bitten quite se verely. Messrs.'Alden, Frink & Weston havedis gosed of their property to J. L. Thompson, ons & Co., of Troy—heavy creditors—and this firm has assumed the payment of the operatives. They also published a card, saying that “they feel confident.all creditors will be paid.” Rumor is, of course, very busy. One report says the assetsof the con cern are from $150,000 to $200,000 over the liabilities, and other accounts represent that several more heavy concerns are so involved by losses as to necessitate their suspension. The liabilities aTefrom $500,000 to $600,000. The National Bank of Cohoes, which held a great deal of their paper, is folly pro tected.- Bales at Philadelphia Steca Beard.
