New Obleans, Oct. 15. —The French cor vette Adonis has sailed for Vera Cruz, and the steamer Victor for New York. Arrived Steamers Merrimac, George Washington and Huntsville, .from New York, . The steamer Merrimac rescued eight per sons from the brig Alpine, in lat. 29, long. 19, from Frankfort, Me., for Cardenas, with a cargo of lumber. The Alpine had her forecastle and everything attached thereto carried-away, the rndder gone and hatches swept off. The names of those rescued from the Alpine were Capt. S. F. Klemm and wife; W. H. Hardy, seaman; T. Hardy, sea man; G. Harher, Beaman; J. B. May land, seaman; Chalreß ,L. Lemar, seaman, leg broken. The lost were C. C. Johnson, mate; Thos. Carstell, second mate; James N. Morrell, seaman; C. C. Brown, seaman, J. D.Pearce, seaman. The Merrimac towed into Key West the brig S. P. Brown, from Newport, R. 1., for Havana, dismasted and no sails. Both brigs were dismasted on the 10th inst. Gale at Boston. Boston, Oct. 15. — A heavy Northeast gale is prevailing on this coast. The steamers Oriental, George Appold, Wm. P. Fire at Ottawa, C. TV.—Cabinet meeting. Ottawa, Oct. 15, —A destructive fire oc curred here yesterday. Many tenement honses were burned, and a large number of families turned out of their homes, losing everything. A full cabinet meeting will be held to morrow, to take final action inregard to the Confederation scheme, and to discuss the instructions that are to be given to the delegates to England; Montreal, C. E., Oct. 15.-Petitions to the Queen to defer the Confederation ques tion until the new Parliament is called to settle the details, particularly the school question, are to be extensively circulated. A cargo of Military stores chiefly Westly Richards muskets and carbines have ar rived.
