The PII was in the act of crossing the steamer's bow, and finding she could not do it, altered the helm to go astern; falling in that, altered the helm again to cross the bow: the engines of the steamer were reversed, but not in time to avoid the collision. The City of Paris carried away her foretOpgallant mast. The crew of the schooner were all saved and taken on board the steamer, and afterwards sent to New York in a tug.
