The Democratic State Convention. !Special Despatch to the Bulletin.] HARRISBURG, March s.—There is an nu -usually large attendEince of members of the Convention. Many could riot obtain lodg ings last night. The Convention meets at three P. M. Lewis C. Cassidy, Esq., will probably be elected temporary chairman. Hon. Wm. Hopkins will probably be permanent chair man. The candidates for nomination stand in the following order : Clymer, Packer, Cass, Taux, D. M. Fox and John D. Stiles. It is supposed that Clymer will have fifty votes on the first ballot. The indications : are that either Clymer or Packer will be nominated on:the third or fourth ballot. Railroad Affairs in the West. LOITISVILLE, March 5.—. f. M. Waskern, President, and A, T. Smith, Secretary of the Southern Pacific Railroad, are expected to arrive here from Texas during the week. general meeting of the stockholders will take place in this city, during the Tie sent month. Direct railroad communication between here and Memphis will be rapidly com pleted, the Louisville and Nashville Rail road Company having loaned the Mem phis, Clarksville and Louisville Railroad Company, $30,000. for that purpose. Fenian Meeting at St. Louis. Sm. Louis, March fith.—A very lrge and enthusiastiC meeting of Fenians was held at Mozart Hall on Saturday night. The plans of General Sweeny against Canada were loudly cheered. A collection of $1,550 was made on the spot, quite a number of rifles and revolvers were contributed, and fifty men were enrolled as soldiers for Irish Liberty. Arrest of Express Robbers. ST. Louis, March s.—Edward Newmeister and E. H. Johnson, two of the five thieves who robbed the United States Express messenger here two weeks ago, have been arrested. The sum of 519,214 of the money was recovered. The remainer of the $lO,OOO stolen is supposed to be in the possession of the three other robbers.,"who:are still at large. Explosion of a Western Steamer—Twenty . five Lives Reported Lost. Loursvmx, March despatch from Memphis says the steamer Lockwood ex ploded her Boilers when .twenty miles from Memphis, and was burned. Twenty-five lives are reported to have been lost. C., setting forth that his en tire property, Valued at $lO 2 OOO, was de stroyed by the firing of that city last win ter, that- he has always been a loyal man, etc., and asking indemrdty from Congress. Referred to the Committee on Claims. Mr. Wade (Ohio) presented the petition of citizens of Ohio, asking for equal rights and the abolition of all destinctions on ac count of color. Referred to the Committee on Reconstruction. - - Mr.-Sumner (Mass.) presented a Petition that no States be - restored to the "Union with out full guarantee for the future. Also, the petition of the Congregation of the Park Street Church, Boston, for equality before the law. Referred to the Committee on Reconstruction. Mr. Morgan (N.Y.) presented the petition of the Assistant Assessor of New York, for an increase of compensation. Referred to the Committee on Finance. Mr. Wilson (Mass.) introduced a joint resolution for the representation in Con gress of the States lately in rebellion. It provides that they shall be entitled to rep "resentation upon their adoption of laws re pealing all distinctions in civil rights on account of color and conferring the right of suffrage upon colored men who have served in the army who can read the con stitution and who pay tax on real or per sonal property. Referred td the Committee on- Reconstruction. The joint resolution to amend the Consti tution on the subject of representation was taken up at 1 o'clock, and Mr. Pomeroy '(Ban.) took the floor.
