All communications. for 'this column must be directed "Chess Editor of EVENING' BunnEfrnq," and should reach the (Alio% at latest, on Thursday morning. All Problems must be aecompanied - by the solution and name of the composer. ' - • AnSW.ep to Correspondenis: gc A. M."—Mr. ,Maurian won eighteen games to fifteen, when playing with -Mr. Morphy. and receiving the odds of a Knight; hence it is our belief that Mr. Perrin is too, strong for this odds. Mr. Morphy's games at Knight or Rook are unsurpassed, bat the most finiihed games where the pawn and two moves is given, are those played by Mr. Staunton. For a fine collection of these games, see the Chem /layer's Companion. "M. J. H."—As our Column is getting bound, we have no opportunity of sending you the required games ; besides Which, we are at a loss what to send . you, because we ' know not what games you have already on band. "CUAs. F. KROEH."—Your contribution has becn received, and shall receive exami nation. "N. Al, NEW Tonn."—We hope you New Yorkers will catch it from Mr. 0 . During the past week our Chess com munity has been visited by Mr. James A Congdon, ,of Harrisburg, and Prof. Hill mann, of Carlisle. These gentlemen coa tested a number of games with various ad versaries, and some interesting games have been the result. A match of Chess commenced a short time ago at the Mercantile Library, between Mr. W. H. Sayen and Dr. J. W. Knox, hai terminated in Mr. Sayen's favor. The final score stands: Sayen, 7 ; Knox, 5; Drawn, 2. --- It is proposed to get up a Tournament shortly at the Mercantile Library, which, if a sufficient number of strong players enter, which we doubt not, will be unusually in teresting. THE advent of 1866 has been celebrated by the New York Chess Club in the very suita ble manner of organizing a Tournament, consisting of a series of matches between players of different degrees of strength. To this end the names of eighteen players en tering the lists having been divided into three several classes, and lots duly cast for opponents in the first round, we find them classified and confronted as follows: First Class—G. H. Mackenzie vs. C. H. Stanley; Dr. Barnett vs. Worrell; Thomp son vs. Zerega ; Johnson vs. Belcher. Second Class—Gen. de Trobriand vs. Dill ; Graves vs. Martinez; Graham vs. Dr. Ward. Third Cass—Arietta vs. Dr. Gilbert; Schultz vs. Young. Two games were played on Tuesday last, by Messrs. Graves and Martinez, of the second class, each gentleman winning a game. Mr. Martinez came near winning both games, but lost the second by too hur ried play. They will play the closing game of the series next Tuesday. Mr. Dill played one game with Gen. De Trobriand, both bolong ing to the second class, and after a severe struggle Mr. Dill came off victorious. Messrs. Mackenzie and Stanley have played two games, Mackenzie winning the first, and drawing the second. Problem No. 419. BY MR. BRAIINE.
