United States Revenue Collector A. J. Kaullmau aud his corps of special aud tegular clerks and deputies leek a little jaded and worn out te day by icasen of their commendable exertions te accommo date the cigar mauufactuiei.s of the city and county iu keeping the olliee open .ill last uinht te supply the demand for cig.ir stamps occasioned by the i eductien et the tax from 0 te $3 per 1,000, which went into effect at midnight last night. In anticipation of these the mauufactuieis throughout the country i'ave been heldiug back their goods aud jobbers and retailers have reduced their stocks te the lowest minimum te get the advautage of the re duced tax. The cigarmakers of this county, anxious te get their goods into the market as quickly as possible, weie en hand leady ler the opening of the sales, and as the clock struck twelve I hey thronged the cel lector's olfice, net only liein this city, but fiem Columbia, Manheiin, Denver, Terre Hill aud ether points where this iudustry nourishes. The demand aud supply have ceutiuued incessantly up te this atteiuoen and ever $25,000 worth were sold in the early hours of this morning. As seen as the cigar men were supplied they hur ried with their stamps te their places of business where they had their goods atid empleyes all ready te prepare their ship ments and probably meie cigars were seut away from Lancaster today than ever at any time before. In Philadelphia the collectors had ar lauged no such couveuieuces for the trade aud the Lancaster county pcople had almost eight hours start of their city com petitors. In many cities in the country, however, it was a busy night for the trade iu taking inventory of stock aud proprietors, clerks aud empleyes gen erally went te work in their shirt sleeves taking stock, for the purpose of claiming rebate en the unbroken stamped packages. The larger, manufacturers had all their hands it work, as the idea was te have the Mateuicnts made up between midnight of April 30, and the opening of business ou May 1. Each package, with the stamp of the old charge affixed had te be labeled, and an inventory made of all the goods en hand te which rebate for the difference made by the reduction was te be allowed. Twe wit nesses of undoubted integrity were required te see that the goods in each place were properly labeled aud iuveuteiied. The inventories, with the calculations of the amount of rebate will be certified te by the witnesses and will be in due time tiled with the internal lcvenue collector and by him sent te Washington. There each claim will be examined and passed upon in the course of time. The manufacturers will be allowed the amount of their rebates in stamps of the new denomination, but the dealers will have te wait for their cash until the government makes an appropriation. In Baltimore the collector's olfice was open for a time after midnight and tens of manufactured tolwcce, which bad been held back, are being shipped fiem that city te-day. In Aerk Ceuuty. Kev. Dr. T.
