P.."V., dated at Cold Harbor, Va., June Bth, giving account of the loss in tornpasyy in the action of June let, at the above named place.: The lettei speaking of the gallant , actionof the regi ment, lays :'—‘• We - rushed for the rebel breast-works at double quick, and when within fifty yards of thentwe met With a furious storm of musket balls; still on our column went, 'until 'within - thirty feet of the rebels, when they opened a murderous fire of grape and canister upon us, literally mowingus down like grass before the cythe. Nothing . short of Salamanders could have stood this living hell of fire, and we slowly fell back and-reformed oar lines and again advanced, and now occupy a position near the rebel rifle pits. We mourn the loss of many friends, and some Columbians. The regimental loss was 187 killed and wounded.
