furious storm of musket balls; still on our
column went, 'until 'within - thirty feet of
the rebels, when they opened a murderous
fire of grape and canister upon us, literally
mowingus down like grass before the cythe.
Nothing . short of Salamanders could have
stood this living hell of fire, and we slowly
fell back and-reformed oar lines and again
advanced, and now occupy a position near
the rebel rifle pits.
We mourn the loss of many friends, and
some Columbians. The regimental loss
was 187 killed and wounded. Company I,
(your Columbia company,) has to mourn
the loss of the following brave men :
Killed—Capt. Henry A. Marehnnt, Corp.
Henry Zimmerman, Privates John Morri

RE. , ,D WHO SAY= SO:
From the Re Levi G. Burk, Pastor of
the Baptist Church, Pemberton, N. J.,
formerly of the North Baptist Cliu, roh,
I have known Hoofinnda's German Bit
ters favorably for anumber of years. I have
used them in my own family, and have
been so pleased with their 'effects that I
was induced to recommend them to many
others, and know that they have operated
in a strikingly 'eneticial manner. I take
great pleasurean thus publicly proclaim
ing this fact, and calling the attention to
those afflicted with the diseases for which
they are recommended to these Bitters,
knowing from experience that my recom
mendation will be sustained. I. do this
cheerfully as Hoofland's Bitters is intend
ed to benefit the afflicted, "not a rum
drink."

I do this more readily in regard to Roof

the impression that they were chiefly
