Dedication of tlm llpiisselner County Soldiers' Monument nt Troy. TilOV, N. Y., Sept. 13. The Hensselaur county soldiers' monument was dedicated in this city today. The monument, which has been erected by popular subscription, is undoubtedly one of the tluest memorials in the country. The principal speaker at the monument was Captain John Palmer, the new commamler-iu-chief of the G. A. H. The dedicatory address at Music hall was delivered by Gen. Stewurt L. Woodford, of Brooklyn. The monument stands on Washington square where the public fountain formerly stood, was designed by Fuller & Wheeler, architects, of Albany, und built by Fred erick & Field, of Ijuincy, Mass., and is constructed of the best (juincy granite. Ground was broken for it Sept. 25, its), by Colonel C. L MacArthur. The corner stone was laid with appropriate ceremonies on May 30, 1MM. The height ot the monument completed is ninety-three feet. At the base tho monument is sixteen feet squure. liruiixe tablets iu bus relief, representing cavalry, artillery, infantry and naval en gagements, are let into the four sides of the die. Casper Hubert, of New York, is the sculptor, and they are elaborate pieces of art. Above the faces of the die on the gabled front of tho superstructure, are in scriptions. "To the soldiers and sailors of Rensselaer county who fought for their country on land and sea" is one inscrip tion. On top stands the cfllgy of Columbia, with trumpet in hand sounding the "Call to Arm." Tho statue is of bronze and was designed by Sculptor James E. Kelly, and cast by the Heury Don nurd llroiuj company, New York. Tun weight of the statue is 4.H40 pounds and is over thirteen feet in height. It. is a handsome piece of work, and is said to be the largest piece ot bronze statuary representing a female ever cast iu this country. SHOT BY AN ACTOR. M. 11. Curtis, "Sum'l of Posen," the well known charac ter actor, who is locked up in the city prisuu here on the charge of murdering Policeman Alexander Grant, of this city, was brought into court in the ufteruoou. Curtis looked pale and trembled percept ibly, evidently not having slept much since the shooting had occurred. Dy consent the case was postponed until next Mon day to await the actiou of the coroner's jury and to allow the attorneys to prepare their cuse.
