Some trainees are actually trained veterinarians in their country, and come to the U.S. to learn how to put into practice all that they’ve read about. Others are from dairy farms or involved in related industries back home. “They know that the U.S. has one of the highest production averages in the world,” said Stahl Tyler. “They know that we are using technology to make better decisions to increase productivity. Plus, living in the U.S. is great practice for English, which is typically very important to the trainee back home.” Trainees are generally committed to a one-year stay at one farm, which gives host farms time to train and appreciate their trainees’ knowledge gain. Hosts provide payment of $6OO per month, housing, food or food allowance, health insurance (provided through the program) and reasonable access to transportation from their host farms.
