PCA Schedules Awards Banque STATE COLLEGE (Centre Co.) The Pennsylvania Cattle men’s Association Awards ban quet has been scheduled for Thursday, March 27, at Cele brations Hall, near the Nittany Mall, State College. The festivities will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by a prime rib dinner at 7 p.m. Cattle producers will be recog nized during this special evening for several awards including the Industry Service Award, Com mercial Cattleman, Seedstock Breeder, and Cattle Feeder of the Year. Producers will also be rec ognized with the Environmental Stewardship Award for their ded ication to preserving agriculture and the environment for future generations. In addition, the 2003 Cattle men’s Beef Ambassadors will be announced and three schol arships for college undergradu ates will be presented. A special presentation will be made to Sam Hayes, Jr. who served as Penn sylvania Secretary of Agriculture until mid-January, 2003. The Expo Junior Shows will be dedicated to Mr. Hayes, and he will be named “Honorary Penn sylvania Cattleman” by the Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Asso ciation at the March 27 banquet. This will be the first such honor given by the PCA. There will also be special award presentations by organiza tions affiliated with PCA. Ban quet reservations should be made by March 21 by calling or faxing the PCA office at (814) 238-5888 Following the successes of the auctions over the past several years, the PCA is requesting consignments for the 2003 auctions Over the past three years, more than $14,000 has been raised through the Silent and Fun Auctions. Expo exhibitors and participants alike will have the opportunity to donate items to the auction Donated items may range from homemade items to tools, bull semen, equipment, dinners at restaurants, services, and livestock. Each item or its photo and description will be on display during the Expo Trade Show hours along with the names of donors The Silent Auction will be located in the mezzanine at the Ag Arena with a bidders’ list for each item The bidder offering the highest bid will be the new owner Some of the items will also be selected for the fun auction to be held at the Thursday night banquet If you have an item that you wish to donate, please return theform below to the PCA office, so we can reserve table space. A list of donors will appear in the next issue of Keystone Cattlemen. Also, there will be a booklet listing the items and donors. A suggested bid increment will be specified for each item. Bids close at 4:00 PM Saturday, March 29.
