Master Gardeners, Leaders Honored At Lebanon County Meeting MICHELLE RANCK Lancaster Farming Staff SCHAEFFERSTOWN (Leb anon Co.) Thirty-two thou sand and still going Recently Debbie Hartman, who has volunteered for 3,200 hours for the Master Gardener pro gram, was recognized at the Penn State Cooperative Exten sion meeting and volunteer rec ognition night. Held at Schaefferstown Fire Hall, the 83rd annual meeting drew a crowd for a meal, busi ness session, extension board member election, and volunteer leader and extension staff recog nition. Hartman received a certifi cate for her involvement with the Master Gardener program. Hartman has been a Master Gardener since 1989. While she served as a volunteer Master Gardner coordinator for Leba non County for a number of years, she presented many pro grams in Lebanon and other counties on topics which in cluded edible flowers, advanced vegetable gardening, and leaf printing. She is also a spot lighted volunteer this year in Penn State Cooperative Exten sion’s annual report. Ken Good, a Master Gardener volunteer since the first class in 1988, was also honored for his 500 hours of service to the pro gram. Ginger Pryor, a horticul ture specialist who provides staff support for the Master Gardener program, gave out the awards. Two volunteer leaders were honored for five years of service to 4-H. Kathleen Ziegler, Schaefferstown, a South Moun tain 4-H leader, has assisted with the club’s sewing projects. Debra Tice, Mount Zion, is an organization leader for the sheep club. All leaders received a tape measure “to measure their suc cess in the program,” said Martha Gregory, youth develop ment agent. First-year leaders received a certificate and port folio while fifth-year leaders re ceived a silver clover pin and certificate.
