I don’t know about you, but fall is my favorite time of the year. The weather is pleasant with warm days and cool nights. The fall foliage bright ens the landscapes but, most importantly for us com grow ers, it’s harvest time. If your operation is any thing like ours, this year’s com harvest also marks the begin ning of the planning stage for next year. As we harvest the crop, we are also analyzing what hybrids we’ll continue to plant and which ones we’ll discard, which herbicides per formed best, and which tillage methods worked best, along with a whole host of other things. Planning is one of the most important aspects of farming today. You’ve probably all heard that farmers are the only group that buys retail and sells wholesale. Because farmers can’t pass their increased costs on to the consumer, we need to produce our product more effi ciently each year. The NCGA also mails out a bi-monthly newsletter which contains a great deal of information. At the board of directors meeting held recently during Ag Progress Days, the PMCGA board elected three new officers. Curt Rakestraw, a com grower from Montoursville, was elected president Wade Wolfe, a grain and livestock producer from Centre Hall, was elected vice president.
