PA 17543 Ph: (717) 569-2702 INDIANA (Indiana Co.) —The 31st annual Junior Livestock Sale at the Indiana County Fair brought young 4-H and FFA members total gross receipts of $95,078.65. That purse was down slightly from the record high gross value of $111,887.15 setat 1992’s sale. But the number of buyers 130 was an increase over last year. This year’s sale time was moved from the traditional 7 p.nr. start to 4 p.m. to avoid traffic con gestion and the midnight finishes that have occurred in recent years as the sale has grown. Sale offi cials were uncertain whether the change in starting times or general market conditions contributed to this year’s lower sales total. At this year’s sale. 265 hogs, lambs, and beef cattle weighing a total of 80,897 pounds were sold. The 168 market hogs, weighing a total of 40,785 pounds, brought an average price per pound with champions of $1.02. The average price per pound excluding champ ions was 98 cents. The 69 market lambs, weighing 7,005 pounds, brought an average price per pound with champions of $1.79. The average price excluding champions was $1.36. ■ The 28 market steers, weighing 33,107 pounds, brought an aver age price per pound with champ ions of $l.OB. The average price per pound without champions was 92 cents. “The margin over market prices was a good bonus,” said Indiana County’s Penn State extension Rebecca Myer had the grand champion of the Hols tein open show.
