A2B-Lancuter fc, iW3 MEYERSDALE (Somerset Co.) The 47th annual Pa. 4-H Southwest District Dairy Show was held recently at the Somerset County fairgrounds in Meyersdale. There were 181 animals shown by 4-H dairy youth from Arms trong, Bedford, Fulton, Somerset, Blair, Indiana, Huntingdon, and Clearfield counties, according to the official results. Type judge for the show was Marie Bachman, of Union City. Showmanship judge was Patty Stroup, of Greencastle. In die Holstein breed Lory Bak er showed the senior and grand champion, a junior 3-year-old, while John Kelley, of Tyrone, showed the reserve grand champ ion, a senior 2-year-old. Junior champion of the Holstein show was an intermediate yearling shown by Greta Snider, of Imler. Reserve junior champion was a senior calf shown by Erin Shaw, of Williamsburg. In the Guernsey breed, Jason Yaple, of Houtzdale, showed the grand and senior champion, a 4-year-old. while Amber Clark, of New Enterprise, showed the reserve grand and reserve senior champion, a junior 3-year-old. Clark also showed the junior champion Guernsey, a fall calf. Eric Yaple, of Houtzdale, showed the reserve junior champion, a summer yearling. In connection with the Guernsey show. Craig Andrie was named the recipient of the Lori Ann Clark Showmanship Class. In the six-animal Ayrshire breed show, Gretchen Yaple, of Houtz- Southwest 4-H dale, showed the grand and senior champion, a dry cow. Rachel McCutcheon, of Altoona, showed the reserve senior and reserve grand champion, a junior 3-year old. Yaple also showed both the junior champion Ayrshire, a senior yearling, and the reserve junior champion, a senior calf. In the five-animal Brown Swiss breed. Brandy Horning, of Hun tingdon. showed a late entry inter mediate calf to win the junior champion title and grand champ ion title. Andy Deabendetfer, of Indiana, showed a junior calf to win the reserve junior champion ship title and the reserve grand champion titles. In the Jersey breed competition, Joshua VanTassle, of Friedens, showed the grand champion, a junior 2-year-old. The reserve grand champion was a senior 3-year-old shown by Kendy Gable, of New Enterprise. The junior champion Jersey was an intermediate calf shown by Lee Bailey, of Roaring Spring. The reserve junior champion was a junior yearling shown by Ricki Johnson, of Somerset In the six-animal Milking Shor thorn competition, Mark Goshorn, of Blairs Mills, showed all three senior-aged animals, and won grand and senior champion with a junior 2-year-old, and reserve senior and reserve grand with a 5-year-old.
