Hillside Farms, Inc., located at Shavertown, has one of the oldest regls tered Holstein herds in the nation. Founded in 1881 by the Conyngham fam ily, the homebred herd can be traced to their first cow through continuous registration records. Right now the 60 cows average over 21,000 pounds of milk, and according to the latest issue of Profiles, the top 13 cows average 33,132 m 3.8% 1,257 f 3.0% 1,006 p. Four of their six excellent cows are In this group. Bill Conyngham is well-known In Holstein circles, and along with his brothers Guthrie and Jack, own the corporation. Bill’s sons Frank and Will are Involved In the farming and dairy store operation, as is Warren Sutton, farm manager for 20 years. Earla McFarland, wife of the late Edwin McFarland, owns and operates this new Dairy of Distinction farm in Wilmington Twp. in Mercer County. Ms. McFarland farms 157 acres and has 54 head of Holstelns. The milking cows average over 19,000 lbs. of milk. The farm has been in the family since the early 1900’s, but they started mllkina cows in 1984. A local Amishman helps with the farming operation. The farm is located north of New Wilmington.
