Planting was accomplished in Cumberland, Franklin, Lehigh, and Berks counties May 4 through 6; Lancaster County tests were not planted until May 14 and 15 because the fields were too wet. The com germinated and emerged well at all sites, but growth was slow through May and early June because temperatures were below normal. Plant stand at the Cumberland County location was reduced by herbicide damage. The entire growing season was cooler and wetter than normal. Thus, corn development and maturation were delayed. Grain dry-down was delayed and moisture levels were high.
