Correspondent Sheep Show KUTZTOWN - The sheep shows at the 1986 Kutztown Fair remained very popular with exhibitors and spectators alike as 4-Hers exhibited their skills with the docile animals. Judging the events was Robert Leib, vocational agriculture teacher with the Cumberland Valley Schools. In the market lamb competition, Tricia Werley, Shoemakersville, was awarded the grand champion market lamb rosette for her first place heavy-heavyweight market lamb. The reserve champion was Glenn Heffner, Fleetwood, with his first place light-heavyweight. There were 68 lambs entered in the competition. In the sheep blocking and grooming contest, Joyce Heffner, Fleetwood, took the title in the junior contest, while Joshua Grim, Breiningsville, took the senior division title. The grand champion fitter and the reserve champion fitter in the fitting and showmanship contests went to a pair of sisters. Her sister, Tracey, received the reserve honors. But Tracey was also named grand champion showman with Glenn Heffner taking the reserve ribbons in showmanship. Jodi Frantz, a 16-year-old FFA member, and her 18-year-old sister, Tracey, have been showing sheep for the past three years. They are the daughters of Wayne and Pat Frantz, Schnecksville. The sisters also showed several of their sheep to breed champions and competed in the market lamb contests. Steer Show Peter Levan judged the steer shows at the 1986 Kutztown Fair with many entries from which to select his champions in the market steer division, the showing and fitting contests, and in the breed divisions. Grand champion market steer was shown by Kent Fisher, Oley. Kennianne Rarick, Reading, exhibited the reserve champion. Showing and fitting honors went to Lori Rabenold, Lehigh County, who was named grand champion showman and Debra Krause, Lehigh County, who was named grand champion fitter.
