Whiteford of Bellwood counts swine finishing, home gardening and off-farm occupational experience among his chapter projects. The son of Joseph and Cecelia Whiteford, Thomas has served as chairman of the recreation and community service committees, and has held the offices of chaplain and vice president. He was awarded a gold medal in the State Land Judging Contest, and earned a silver medal in the State Parliamentary Procedure Contest. He has attended the Western Pa. FFA Leadership Conference and the 1983 National FFA Convention. He was also an agribusiness Foundation Award recipient. Thomas has served as a volunteer with the fire department as well as the state forest fire crew, and is also an ambulance association member. Lisa has been secretary of the Canton chapter for two years and secretary for the Bradford County FFA. She also has been the recipient of Greenhand and chapter awards. Her extracurricular activities include cross country, marching and concert band, library club track and field, 4-H, Disco D-J club, and Interact, a school-related audio-visual group. Lisa has served as basketball manager for the Canton Junior- Senior High School. In true farm family fashion, lisa plans to attend Penn State University and major in agricultural education. John Beach, son of Robert and Julia Beach, Granville Summit, has been involved in dairy herd projects during all four years he has been a member of the Troy chapter of FFA. A student at Troy Senior High School, John has spent most of his extra time workihg with his FPA chapter as student advisor, chapter chaplain, as a member of the citrus committee (two years) and on the program of the work committee for two years. Davey Award and received the silver medal for the state project book contest. An avid hunter, John aspires to further his education following high school, then “locate a farm to work on that I could eventually own,” he says. Dave Bristol Dave Bristol, son of Mike and Shirley Bristol, Troy, is a student at Troy Area High School. He has been an active member of the Troy chapter of FFA for four years, participating in the scrapbook committee, the ad vertising committee, the BOAC committee and the citrus com mittee. Dave has been involved with a dairy herd project for four years. He was vice president of the chapter from 1982 to 1984 and is second vice president for 1985-86. John has earned the Greenhand degree, the chapter degree and the county degree. He took first place in the tractor driving contest in 1984 and 1985, a feat which may have been the result of his long-standing interest in motorcycling. John has been on the Troy High School football team for two years. He is a hunter and plans to join his father in dairy fanning in the future. Her FFA activities include dairy projects, in which she balances work with six Jerseys. She has been a member of the chapter work committee and BOAC committee. Lisa was the recipient of the 1986 H.C. Fetterolf Jersey Breeders Award in addition to numerous show awards. She has earned the Greenhand degree, the chapter degree and the county farmer degree. Lisa was premier Jersey exhibitor in the 1985 All American Dairy Junior Show. At school, she participates in volleyball and the drama club and, of course, in the 4-H dairy group. Lisa says she loves travel because she likes “to meet people.” Following graduation, she intends to help her father on his dairy farm and “do some traveling.” Nathan D. Harkness Nathan D. Harkness, son of Dana and Mary Harkness, GUlett, is a four-year FFA veteran of the Troy chapter, serving two years as chapter president and two years as county president. He was junior chapter president from 1982 to 1983 and has served as LisaJ. Nathan has chaired the program of work committee and has served on the citrus committee for two years. He was a first place winner in the dairy foods contest. Nathan 0. Harkness Nathan is a member of his high school’s student government (two years) and has participated in football. He is interested in both fishing and hunting. Nathan will attend a college or university following graduation, with a major in political science. Stephen Mattocks, son of Duane and Sandra Mattocks, Troy, has been active in the Troy FFA chapter for four years. Stephen is well on his way to becoming a successful farmer. He has worked with a dairy herd project for four years and presently owns a half interest in a 40-cow dairy and 21 heifers. All are registered Holsteins, reports Stephen. “I also have 50 acres of com and 70 acres of alfalfa as a project,” notes the busy young farmer.
