FFA Keystone Winners honored at Farm Show (Continued from Page D 7) showman award at the 1984 Bedford County Fair, third-place intermediate market hog at the 1984 Blair-Bedford-Fulton FFA Market Hog Show and a fourth place award at the latter show this year. Her farming program earned her a gold medal in the Area Farming Program contest. The fourth member of her family to receive the Keystone Degree, Carol is also a member of the Central High Newspaper Club, the Yearbook Club, the Future Teachers of America, Girls Athletic Association, Drama Club and the Health Careers Club. Following graduation Carol hopes to become a medical office assistant. Stanley Kensinger Stanley Kensinger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kensinger, is a senior at Central High School. He held the FFA office of assistant chaplain in 1984 and presently is the assistant sentinel of the Central Cove chapter. Stanley’s fanning program has involved dairy cattle and field crops, and he has exhibited his dairy heifer at the Morrison Cove and Regional FFA dairy shows. In recognition of his achievements, he received a silver medal in the Area Farming Program contest and a second place in the Blair County Farming Program contest. He also par ticipated in the state FFA In vitational Dairy Judging contest in 1962. The fourth member of the family to receive the Keystone Degree, Stanley plans to work on the home farm with his brothers after graduation. Vaughn Kruis Vaughn Kruis, 17, of Altoona attends Tyrone Area High School and has been a member of the Warriors Mark FFA chapter for four years. He has held the positions of FFA sentinel and vice president, and has logged more than 4,000 hours in the work experience program. Vaughn’s projects have include veal calves, steers and dairy heifers, and he has participated in many contests including land judging and project book contests at the county and state levels. He has placed first in the ag mechanics contest and earned the ag mechanics proficiency award; Following graduation he plans to enter the dairy herdsman program at Williamsport Area Community College. Holli Pheasant The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pheasant, Jr., of Williamsburg, Holh Pheasant is one of the top four senior vocational agriculture students at Williamsburg High School. She is a college preparatory student involved in the vo-ag program through independent study. An FFA member since 1982, Holli has shown swine, market lambs, breeding sheep and steers at the Bedford Fair and Williamsburg Community Farm Show. She is an active member of the Blair County beef, lamb and swine clubs In 1984 she received a gold certificate at FFA Week held at Penn State where she judged livestock. This past year she earned first place in a county essay contest and also received a gold award for recordkeeping in the State Bookkeeping Contest. She has served as chapter secretary and has participated on the Parliamentary Procedure Team. Her other high school activities have included band, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, Careers in Health club and youth education. She has also served on the year book staff and the school newspaper staff as both reporter and editor. Following graduation, she plans to attend Juniata College as a pre medicine major. Joel Pheasant A senior at Central High School, Joel Pheasant is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pheasant of Williamsburg. He currently holds the office of reporter in the Central Cove FFA. Joel’s involvement in farming includes dairy cattle, market hog and field crop projects. He is current involved in on-farm work experience on a local dairy farm. In 1983 he won a bronze medal in the Blair-Bedford-Fulton Area Farming Program and par ticipated in the Blair County land judging contest in 1983 and ’B4. In the future he would like to work for a local farm machinery dealer as a mechanic. Dennis Smouse The son of Charles and Fem Smouse of Altoona, Dennis Smouse attends Bellwood-Antis High School and has been an FFA member for four years. His FFA projects have included beekeeping, strawberries, home garden, home improvements and on-farm occupational experience. He has served as chairman of the SOE, State and National Activities and Community Service com mittees. Dennis has also served as chapter sentinel and student ad visor, and has received awards in numerous contests including ag mechanics, area projects and foundation awards. In his spare time he serves as a volunteer fireman, on the am bulance crew, the state forest fire crew and the wrestling team. His future hopefully holds a career in the construction industry. Kathy Sollenberger Kathy Sollenberger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Sollenberger, is a senior enrolled in the vocational agriculture program at Williamsburg High School. A four-year FFA member, she has served as treasurer for the past two years. Her farming en terprises include dairy calves, heifers and cows, as well as beef and dairy beef finishing. She has received county, area and local awards for her farming programs, and received the FFA Foundation Proficiency award in 1984. Kathy has also attended FFA Activities Week for the past three years, where she won a bronze medal in 1983 and honorable mention in 1985 for dairy judging. She has shown heifers at the Morrison’s Cove Dairy Show and steers at the Bedford County Fair. This past summer she attended the National Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.; PAFC at Juniata College and AIC-NICE atKansas State University. Recently Kathy was selected to serve on the 1986 scholar staff at PAFC. She plans to work for a year following graduation before possibly attending college. Robert F. Steinbauer Robert F. Steinbauer, 17, is the son of Norman and Joyce Stein bauer of Altoona, and a student at Bellwood-Antis High School. A four-year FFA member, his projects have included beef finishing, market lambs, turkeys, pullets, broilers, beekeeping and sweetcorn. A Chapter Star Farmer in 1984, Robert attended the PAFC Summer Conference in the same Vaughn Kruis Robert Craig Steinbauer Turnbaugh year, and participated in the State Land Judging Contest (1984) and Public Speaking Contest (1983 and ’84.) He has served as chapter reporter and treasurer. His long-range goal is to start an agricultural aviation business after serving in the army as an aircraft mechanic and pilot. Craig Turnbaugh The son of Alton and Zeta Turn baugh of Altoona, Craig Turn baugh is a Bellwood-Antis student and four-year FFA member. He has served as chairman of the Earnings,Savings and In vestments committee, as well as the State and National Activities committee. His projects include laying hens and home im provements. During FFA Activities. Week he was awarded a silver medal in the State Parliamentary Procedure contest, and also received Foun dation Awards in poultry and landscape management at the 1985 National FFA Convention. He has received awards for ag mechanics, tractor driving and the county creed contest, as well. Craig’s hobbies include four wheel-drive vehicles and hill climbing.
