HOLLIDAYSBURG - Thomas W. Kelly achieved the highest herd average for milk, fat and protein in Blair County, according to the annual DHIA summary of the testing year ending September 30th. His herd of 63 cows produced 21,176 lbs. of milk, 771 lbs. of butterfat, and 688 lbs. of protein. Kelly’s herd was the only Blair County dairy to produce over 20,000 lbs. milk. Herds producing over 10,000 lbs. were those of Fred Bechtel, Blackcrest Farms, Clover Will Farms, Marcove Farm, and Charles and Mike Hoover. Eight herds in the county produced more than 700 lbs. fat for the year. They were: Thomas W. Kelly, Fred Bechtel, Blackcrest Farms, Clover Will Farms, Marcove Farm, Penn-England, Charles and Mike Hoover, and Mil- Ber Farms. Earning the plaque for the greatest increase in butterfat production was Fred Bechtel with an additional 83 pounds. Top 2-year-olds were also recognized for high milk, fat, and protein production.
