LEBANON The rabbits came ‘hopping’ into the Lebanon County Fairgrounds Sunday for the annual show, held in conjunction with the Lebanon Area Fair. Actually, their owners carried the furry creatures into the rabbit bam their precious cargos secure inside cardboard boxes, or carrying cages. Judging the row upon row of rabbit entries was Jack Pugh, a well-known rabbit breeder from Virginia. So in October of 1979 they went on a complete Inple “F” nutritional program. At that time the herd was at 20,163 lbs. of milk and 712 lbs. of butterfat. In January of 1979, they went to 3-times-a-day milking No. 1 in Milk in lowa By May of 1980, production was up to 22,060 lbs of milk and 742 lbs. of butterfat That was enough to make the herd No. 1 in lowa in milk production of all herds on DHIA or DHIR test It was, in fact, the highest DHIA record ever achieved in lowa “What we really like is the improvement in income over feed cost,” says Mrs. Englebrecht “That's up to $1,498 per cow and our goal is to see if we can push it over $2,000.” Good management and dedication certainly play a part in the success story of this Waterloo couple.
