The two men went to visit other farms, gleanmg from each whatever ideas might be practical for what Comer had in mind. The “cow hutch” concept is what Comer finally decided upon. He designed and built it himself. Asked if it wasn’t very demanding to have to build an entire dairy operation himself while still having all the responsibilities of far ming, Comer grins and lets it be known that he is happy with what he’s doing. He says he got a lot of satisfaction from going out after supper to build, and preferred that to relaxation. That is not to say, however, that Comer does not know how to live com fortably. Comer designed and built a new house for his family, and he has a planned recreation area right on the farm. 37 All of the Comers are enthusiastic about sports and recreation. And they share their interests and facihties with the neigh borhood. It’s an un derstanding which has reaped priceless dividends for them. When Comer was seriously injured in two accidents, for example, adults and youths from the community helped out. The new house was built with the help of friends; says Comer. The Harford Countian looks at his new operation with satisfaction not only because he buUt it himself, but because it works so weU. He notes no problems and has even seen an increase in production. Sons Randy, 21; and Keith, 14; and daughter, Lisa, 17; are also pleased with it. Energy-saving ideas played a large role in the Comers’ new dairy set-up.
