For the first time in four weeks, closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were lower than at the end of the previous period. In ad dition to the bearish effects of a lower carcass trade early, marketings were poorly distributed over the trading period with more than 50 per cent of the four day supply arriving on Monday. There was a fair percentage of choice steers included in the run, but also an increasing volume of Good and low-Choice 975-1050 lb. new crop steers and 800- 900 lb. heifers. There was some mild early feeder inquiry for partly fattened steers suitable for a short turn in the feedlot. Much of the heifer supply was good to average-choice. Slaughter steers made up ap proximately 48 per cent and heifers 29 per cent, cows comprised 14 per cent and feeders 6 per cent.
