A PennDOT roadside rest at Wyalusing Rocks, on U.S. Route 6 near Wyalusing, provides tourists with a striking view of the Susquehanna River Valley below. This was a lookout on the Warriors Path long ago. PennDOT’s Maintenance District Office in Centre County is located on the site of the old Air Mail Field, a refueling stop on the New York-develand run back in the ‘Twenties. An engineering marvel of its day, PennDOT’s George Westinghouse Memorial Bridge carrying Route 30 over Turtle Creek, Allegheny County, is still going strong. It was built between 1930-32. Philadelphia International Airport originated as a training field for the Penn sylvania National Guard provided by the City of Philadelphia in 1925, ac cording to PennDOT records. One of the oldest highways on PennDOT's system is U.S. Route 40 (the National Road), which passes through Somerset, Fayette and Washington counties. This portion was built between 1811 and 1818.
